Coffee with Council is This Saturday
Longmont City Council will host Coffee with Council from 9 to 10 am on Saturday, January 30, at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Avenue. At this event, you can talk informally with Mayor Dennis Coombs and Mayor Pro Tem Brian Bagley on any topic of your choice, and the coffee’s on us! Demolition Work to Begin on Main Street Bridge
After several weeks of utility relocation work, the Main Street Bridge Replacement at St. Vrain Creek is moving into the first phase of bridge demolition. All traffic will be shifted to the east side of the bridge beginning Jan. 29 so that the west half of the existing bridge can be demolished.Bridge replacement work is expected to be complete in September 2016. Replacing the Main Street Bridge coincides with the City’s work on Resilient St. Vrain initiative. “Imber’s Left Hand” to Screen at Longmont Senior Center
“Imber’s Left Hand,” the deeply moving, award-winning documentary about the celebrated artist Jon Imber, who seeks joy and fulfillment in every moment of a life shortened by ALS, will be shown at 5:30 pm on Tuesday, February 2, at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Avenue. This free presentation, part of the Boulder International Film Festival, also will feature Richard Kane, the film’s director, who will be present to discuss the film. Serve Your City on a Board or Commission
If you would like to participate in the deliberation of topics that are important to the city, consider applying to serve on a volunteer advisory board. Persons shall be eligible to serve who have lived in and been registered voters of the City of Longmont for one year prior to their appointment. Summer Day Camp Registration Begins on Monday
Registration for Longmont Recreation Services’ Summer Day Camps begins Monday, February 1, and is accepted on an ongoing basis. These camps offer traditional, state-licensed summer day care for children ages 5 to 10 (5 year olds must have completed kindergarten), and for tweens ages 11 to 13 in the Tween LOCO camp. Activities include swimming, park field trips, and enrichment activities. The SCOPE summer camps provide therapeutic programming for teens and adults with special needs. Pulitzer Prize-Winning Author to Speak
Dr. Elizabeth Fenn, winner of the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Nonfiction, will speak at the Longmont Public Library, 409 4th Avenue, at 7 pm on Thursday, February 4. Never Leave Your Running Vehicle Unattended
Since November 1st, Longmont has had 34 reported auto thefts, 6 of those auto thefts have been “puffers” which amounts to approximately 17% (3 were stolen from private property, 3 were stolen from a public street). A “puffer” is any vehicle that has been left running and unattended. The 2015 year end statistics accumulated by ATICC show auto theft was up 28.9% across the state of Colorado (Longmont was up 1% for the year).
