Longmont CAReS Accepting Applications
Longmont residents who need help paying their bills can apply for rebates from the City of Longmont. Longmont CAReS (Longmont City Assistance and Rebate System) allows eligible residents to apply for multiple rebates with one form. Rebates are offered for a portion of property tax/rent, electricity costs, water service costs, grocery sales tax, and the Park & Greenway Maintenance Fee. Residents who receive LEAP, SNAP, SLMB, 104PTC, USDA’s free lunch, or other income-qualified assistance are eligible for this program. Utility Rate Adjustments
New electric, water and wastewater rates go into effect January 1, 2020,and will be reflected on your February utility bill. For a typical household, the new rates will mean an additional $7.41 per month in electric, water and wastewater costs. Strider Glider Biking for Preschoolers
Introduce your child age 2 to 5 to balance bikes from 9:30 to 10:30 am on select Wednesday mornings at the Memorial Building, 700 Longs Peak Avenue. We have the bikes and the gym; you provide the instruction and supervision. Upcoming dates are January 8, February 12, March 11, and April 8. A limited number of loaner bikes is available or you can bring your own. The cost is $6 per rider; call 303-651-8404 to register.
Itty Bitty City Returns
Itty Bitty City returns from 9 to 11 am on Fridays, January 10 through May 15, at the St. Vrain Memorial Building, 700 Longs Peak Avenue. Children ages 6 months to 5 years have lots of room to run and play in the gym. Parents must supervise their children, and no older children, please. The cost is $3 per child or $24 for a 10-visit pass. No registration is needed for this drop-in program.
Shred Your Private Documents for Free
Take your boxed or bagged documents to be shredded to the Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street between 9 am and 2 pm on Saturday, January 11, to safely and securely recycle your private documents. This is for residential documents only; no business materials will be accepted. Also take identification and a copy of your most recent Longmont utility bill. Play Fellow Online Gamers at the Library
Grab your gaming laptop and head to the Library between 3 and 6 pm on Wednesday, January 8, for the first meeting of the new eSports + Online Gaming Club for teens. This is a challenging and fun environment for those age 12 and older to improve their skills, teamwork, and matchmaking seasonal ranking (MMR). Ten gaming laptops will be available to borrow, and no registration is necessary. The club, for 6th through 12th graders, will meet on the second Wednesday of each month in the Library conference room at 409 4th Avenue.
