Free summer Concert in the Park

Pack your picnic basket and join us in Carr Park, 1301 21st Ave., for a free summer concert featuring the Kutandara from 6:30-8 pm on Wednesday, July 24. Fusing ancient African music traditions with indie-pop, rock, jazz, gospel, classical and world folk influences, Kutandara’s exuberant polyrhythmic performances are innovative and deeply-rooted at the same time. This concert is hosted by the Longmont Museum while their outdoor courtyard undergoes renovation. Visit the Longmont Museum website or call 303-651-8374 to learn more.

Save money by running your AC less

During the sweltering summer months, it’s essential to explore alternative methods for cooling your home. Relying solely on air conditioning can be expensive and contributes to climate change by increasing the demand for electricity. Doing simple things around the house, like taking advantage of cooler evenings by opening windows to encourage cross-ventilation, opting to grill outdoors to avoid heating up the house, and adjusting ceiling fans to rotate counterclockwise, pushing cool air downward, will help make your home cooler.

Free Community Night – Jeff & Paige

Bring your picnic meal, chairs and blankets and enjoy the scenery from 5:30-6:30 pm on Tuesday, July 16 at the Sandstone Ranch Visitors Center, 3001 Sandstone Drive. At 6:30 pm, Jeff & Paige will present an evening of songs, storytelling, humor, and interactive play for all ages. This is a free outdoor family concert; please consider carpooling due to limited parking. No pets. No registration required. Visit the Sandstone Events webpage for more information or call 303-651-8404.

Call before you dig!

Colorado’s “Call Before You Dig” law protects your utility lines from being cut during underground work, which also protects you and your neighborhood. Just remember, if you’re going to dig on your property, or in a nearby easement or right-of way, contact 811! These may not be your only private lines — water, sewer and storm sewer lines all have private components to them and will need to be privately located as well. Failing to contact 811 could leave you with a broken line and an expensive repair bill. Worse, it can also disrupt service to an entire area and be deadly if a gas or electric line is hit! Find more information at the Utilities webpage under the “Before You Dig” link or visit Colorado 811’s website at www.co811.org.

Kids breakdancing event at Library

Join Mi Chantli and Unit 22 from 10-10:45 am on Friday, July 19 at the Longmont Library for a dance performance followed by a small lesson on breakdancing. Mi Chantli is an Art and Movement Sanctuary located in Boulder. Come experience movement medicine on the Library West Patio! This event is free to attend and open to all ages; no registration required.

Plastic Pollution Solutions: July 18

Join your Longmont Librarians and the City’s Sustainability team from 6-7:30 pm on Thursday, July 18 for a free event that will provide resources and ideas to help you reduce single-use plastic waste every day at home, work, school and beyond—including a “Choose to Refuse” kit. Enjoy a panel discussion, children’s programming, an information fair and a special community activity. Registration is required at the Library Programs webpage or by calling 303-651-8472.
