Longmont Prevails in Butterball Appeal
The Court of Appeals unanimously upheld the district court’s granting of summary judgment in favor of the City in the Butterball lawsuit. “The Colorado Court of Appeals’ decision validates the City of Longmont’s appropriate and lawful right to rezone the property near First and Main, including the Butterball properties,” Longmont City Manager Harold Dominguez said. “The City looks forward to implementing the Council’s vision for a brand new mixed-use development that promises to transform the downtown area in profound ways.” Butterball claimed that the city violated Butterball’s federal and state procedural due process rights by enacting a new zoning ordinance.
Traffic Configuration Changes on Ken Pratt Boulevard and Main Street
Beginning Monday, July 20, there will be a new traffic configuration at the Ken Pratt Boulevard & Main Street intersection. The right turn lane for northbound Main Street to eastbound Ken Pratt Boulevard will change from a free running right turn lane to a yield controlled movement. Message boards will be put in place to notify the traveling public of these changes. This construction is part of the City of Longmont’s “Focus on South Main.”
Phone Scam Making its Way Through Longmont
SCAM ALERT – Longmont businesses are receiving calls from someone claiming to be from “City of Longmont utility billing” and asking for money to pay their utility bill. This is a scam. The scammer asked the business to pay their delinquent bills over the phone by using a pre-paid card or face their utilities being shut off immediately. Do not provide the caller any payment information. If you do receive this call, please call 303-651-8501 and file a police report.
Due to the recent wet weather, the mosquito population is expected to increase this summer. Stay informed with the City of Longmont email notification system. It provides residents with up-to-date information on a variety of topics including West Nile Virus. If there are plans to spray in your area, you will receive a notice by email. Smoke Alarm Volunteers Needed
Volunteers, accompanied by Fire Department staff, are needed to visit residences from 5 to 8 pm, July 28 – 31 and August 3 – 6 to determine the proper number of smoke alarms needed in Longmont homes. Volunteers will check devices and install replacement batteries or detectors if necessary. Did you know that the City of Longmont offers a Be Ready presentation to civic organizations, workplaces, neighborhood groups and church groups that can help you learn how to prepare for an emergency? The presentation will give you and your group’s members information and tools to become part of the solution when disaster hits. HOA Training: Options for Financing

Nature Night with HawkQuest at Sandstone
Sandstone Ranch Visitors and Learning Center at 3001 E. Highway 119 presents a free program by HawkQuest on Tuesday, July 21. Observe the unique tools of the owl, the eagle’s incredible talons, the falcon’s aerodynamic features, and the precision flying of the hawk. Robot Film Series Begins This Weekend at the Longmont Museum
The first film series at the Longmont Museum’s new state-of-the-art, 250-seat Stewart Auditorium highlights the Museum’s current hands-on exhibition, Robots Rising.
