New City website coming in August

The City of Longmont is preparing to launch a new website in August, upgrading its online presence at longmontcolorado.gov so that visitors can more easily find the information they need. This will also include a new utility payment portal. After the new site has launched, customers who have signed up for online billing will need to go to their payment portal, create a new account and re-enter their payment information. “Princess and the Frog” Movie at the Museum

Join the Longmont Museum for the Summer Kids’ Film Series Tuesday mornings from June 18 – July 30 at 10 am. This week’s movie is “Princess and the Frog” (2009, PG). When a selfish prince is turned into a frog, he is forced to find a princess to kiss and break the curse. However, he stumbles across Tiana, a hard-working waitress with a dream of opening her own restaurant in New Orleans, and confuses her for a princess. The blunder causes Tiana to turn into a frog herself. The two go on a wild journey through the bayous of Louisiana in hopes of finding a voodoo priestess who can restore their true forms. Tickets are $3. Buy online on the Museum website or by calling 303-651-8374.

Save money by running your AC less

During the sweltering summer months, it’s essential to explore alternative methods for cooling your home. Relying solely on air conditioning can be expensive and contributes to climate change by increasing the demand for electricity. Doing simple things around the house, like taking advantage of cooler evenings by opening windows to encourage cross-ventilation, opting to grill outdoors to avoid heating up the house, and adjusting ceiling fans to rotate counterclockwise, pushing cool air downward, will help make your home cooler.

Call before you dig!

Colorado’s “Call Before You Dig” law protects your utility lines from being cut during underground work, which also protects you and your neighborhood. Just remember, if you’re going to dig on your property, or in a nearby easement or right-of way, contact 811! These may not be your only private lines — water, sewer and storm sewer lines all have private components to them and will need to be privately located as well. Failing to contact 811 could leave you with a broken line and an expensive repair bill. Worse, it can also disrupt service to an entire area and be deadly if a gas or electric line is hit! Find more information on the Utilities webpage under the “Before You Dig” link or visit Colorado 811’s website.
