This Week in Longmont – July 23, 2021

Protect Yourself from West Nile Virus
Mosquitoes carrying the West Nile Virus have been found in Weld County and traps are finding historically high numbers of Culex mosquitoes. The City has begun spraying events and is strongly encouraging residents to practice the “4 Ds”:

  • Use Deet or an alternative repellent;
  • Dress in long sleeves and pants;
  • Avoid outdoor activities between dusk until dawn; and
  • Drain standing water in your yard (i.e. birdbaths, outdoor planter, tires stored outside, etc.)

Learn more at LongmontColorado.gov/WestNile or call 303-651-8416.

In-person Coffee with Council
Longmont City Council will host Coffee with Council from 9 to 10 am on Saturday, July 24, at Red Frog Coffee, 15 Ken Pratt Blvd., Unit 200. At this event, you can talk informally with City staff, Council Member Polly Christensen and Council Member Joan Peck on any topic of your choice, and the coffee’s on us! For more information, call 303-651-8649.

Play Online Trivia with Librarians
“Are You Smarter than a Librarian?” — an interactive, online trivia night program moderated by your Longmont librarians — is back on Monday, July 26, from 7-8:30 p.m. The program series is aimed at adults and older kids and features up to 25 people, teams, or households competing for bragging rights by winning the best of five rounds of play. Advance registration is required at bit.ly/LibPrograms.

Vaccinate Your Teens and Tweens
Protect your family and resume the activities you enjoyed together prior to the pandemic! Boulder County Public Health recommends getting yourself and your children 12 years and older vaccinated. Teens and tweens can receive the Pfizer vaccine. Some children can get severely ill from COVID-19, especially those with certain underlying conditions such as diabetes, asthma, heart disease since birth and more. Learn more at www.boco.org/covid-parents-resources and find a vaccination site near you at boco.org/CovidVaccines.
