Outdoor Warning System Test on Monday
The City’s Outdoor Emergency Warning System (OEWS) is being tested at 10 am on Monday, August 3. The system is tested the first Monday of every month from April through August. Other than for testing, the system will be used only to notify the community when immediate action should be taken. If you hear the sirens and it isn’t the first Monday of the month at 10 am, seek shelter immediately and tune to local media for information.
West Nile Mosquitoes Found in Longmont
Boulder County Public Health has confirmed that mosquitoes in a mosquito pool in Longmont have tested positive for West Nile virus (WNV). Positive mosquito pools have been confirmed in five other Colorado counties this year: Denver, Jefferson, Larimer, Pueblo and Weld counties. When Longmont sprays for West Nile mosquitoes it typically happens on Thursday nights. To sign up for spray eNotifications visit LongmontColorado.gov/westnile.

Economic Council and the City of Longmont, will offer a workshop to help small business owners develop or refine their business plan. This class will be held from 6 to 9 pm on Tuesday, August 4, at the Boulder SBDC Longmont office at 528 Main Street, and it’s free to prospective and existing small businesses in Longmont. Join Your Neighbors for National Night Out
Enjoy family activities and meet your neighbors and staff from Longmont’s Department of Public Safety at two National Night Out locations. From 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, August 4, take your picnic and lawn chairs to either Kanemoto Park at 1051 S. Pratt Parkway or Lanyon Park at 19th Avenue and Collyer Street. This is a great opportunity to strengthen your community and your neighborhood’s partnership with the Longmont Police and Fire departments. Help to Envision Longmont at Community Workshop
Join the conversation on August 6 at the Xilinx Summit Retreat Center, located at 3100 Logic Drive. We will be hosting two sessions – join us from 2 to 4 p.m OR 6 to 8 p.m. We will start with a brief presentation, followed by a fun, interactive key-pad polling exercise. Each session will conclude with an open house during the last half hour. The goal is to gather community input on the City’s future growth opportunities, the transportation system, and community vision. For people unable to participate in the August 6 workshops, we will have on line activities up on www.envisionlongmont.com from mid-August through September.

Small Wonders Preschool, located at the St. Vrain Memorial Building, offers a variety of developmentally appropriate activities that help each child develop to his or her fullest – socially, emotionally, physically, creatively and cognitively. The preschool is licensed with the state of Colorado, and classes follow the St. Vrain Valley School District calendar for holidays and school breaks. Longmont Celebrates 25 Years of Longmont Sister Cities
When then-mayor Fred Wilson signed an agreement establishing the formation of Longmont Sister Cities 25 years ago, it created a momentous partnership with Chino City in Nagano, Japan, that has changed the lives of hundreds of exchange students, parents and board members.
