Hard-to-Recycle Event This Saturday
The Longmont Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street will hold a Hard-to-Recycle Event from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturday, June 18, for materials that are not accepted for curbside recycling. There may be a fee for certain items. Please bring ID and a copy of your current utility bill showing the waste management fee. June 22 is Bike to Work Day!
June 22 is Bike to Work Day. Whether you’re a first timer or a daily commuter, share the road with thousands of others in Colorado, and get a free breakfast before work or stop on the way home for a Bike Party. Free Concert at Sandstone Ranch
Sandstone Ranch Visitors & Learning Center at 3001 Sandstone Drive offers special events, workshops and programs for the whole family throughout the summer. From 5:30 to 7:30 pm on Tuesday, June 21, enjoy the scenery while you listen to folk/Americana music by Denny Driscoll. Bring a picnic and chairs or blanket to sit on, and dress for an outdoor event. Free Rockies Skills Challenge
Boys and girls age 6-13 (as of December 31, 2016) can compete in throwing, running and hitting during the free Rockies Skills Challenge from 9 to 10:30 am on Saturday, June 18, at the Sandstone Ranch ball fields, 3001 E. Highway 119. There are four age divisions, and winners in each age and gender group will advance to the sectional, then regional competition. Registration forms are available at the competition. Rainbow Storytime at the Library
Families are invited to this special storytime at the Longmont Public Library, 409 4th Avenue, from 6 to 6:30 pm on Thursday, June 23, to celebrate National LGBTQ + Pride Month. Come enjoy stories, rhymes, crafts, and fun while celebrating diversity and the inclusion of all kinds of people and families. Registration is not required.
Rusty Dusty Riders – Get Back on Your Bike!
Feeling a little rusty on your bike? Come learn and ride with the Rusty Dusty Riders from 8:30 to 11 am on June 22 or July 20 at Roosevelt Park, 700 Longs Peak Avenue. Review bike and helmet safety checks, how to navigate your route, detecting noises, riding safely with traffic, what to wear, and so much more! Includes classroom instruction plus on-bike practice. It’s General Aviation Appreciation Month in Colorado! Come out to Vance Brand Airport at 229 Airport Road for the family-friendly Airport Expo from 7 am to 3 pm on Saturday, June 25. See vintage, military and experimental aircraft; enjoy aerobatic performances and skydiving demonstrations; check out the drone demo; taste some great food, including a pancake breakfast from 7 to 9 am; and lots more. Longmont Kinetics continues to offer family-fun event with food, music, bands, Kinetic and Solstice Swim races, and more! Join the Kinetics fun on Saturday, June 25, at Union Reservoir, 461 Weld County Road 26. Gates open at 10 am and ceremonies begin at 11 am. Festivities continue with the Sculpture Race at 1 pm, the Kids’ Recycled Raft Race at 4 pm and the Solstice Swim at 6 pm. Enjoy live music from 5 to 8 pm and stay until dusk for the Sculpture Burn. • Use an insect repellant that contains at least 10% DEET or an alternative
• Dress in long sleeves and pants
• Minimize outdoor activity between dusk and dawn
• Drain standing water
