This Week in Longmont – June 28, 2019

City Holiday Schedules
Longmont city government observes the Independence Day holiday on Thursday, July 4. Most City facilities will be closed, and the Waste Diversion Center will be closed July 4 and 5. The Longmont Museum will be open from 9 am to 5 pm, and the Recreation Center and Roosevelt Pool will be open from 10 am to 4 pm. Kanemoto Pool will be open from 10 am to 5 pm, and Sunset Pool will be open from 9 am to 5 pm. All regularly scheduled fitness classes at all locations are cancelled on Thursday. Thursday trash, recycling and composting collection will be on Friday.

Holiday AquaZumba® at Sunset Pool
Start off your Independence Day holiday with a workout party! Join Recreation staff for a special AquaZumba class at 9 am on Thursday, July 4, at Sunset Pool, 1900 Longs Peak Avenue. Regular admission fees apply, or use your recreation pass. Visit LongmontColorado.gov/rec or call 303-651-8300 for more information.

Celebrate the 4th with Music and Fireworks
Begin your holiday fun at 11:30 am on Thursday, July 4, with a picnic and the annual free holiday concert by the Longmont Symphony Orchestra at Thompson Park, 4th Avenue and Bross Street. Then, at about 9:30 pm, enjoy the explosion of fireworks over Longmont. The best view is from within about one mile of the Boulder County Fairgrounds. Disability parking is available at the fairgrounds’ south Nelson Road entrance with permit.

Attract the Wildlife You Want, Deter the Rest
We love having songbirds in our yards and are delighted to see a deer in the neighborhood. But no one wants a skunk under the deck or squirrels eating the bird seed. Join Boulder County Extension Agent Sharon Bokan from 5:30 to 6:30 pm on Thursday, July 11, at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Avenue, to learn about both sides of wildlife, how we can invite them onto our properties and how to not create problems. This program is free, but registration is required at JoinUs.LongmontColorado.gov.

Turn Bargains into Treasure with ThriftU
Master the art of thrift store upcycling with your ThriftU degree from the Longmont Public Library at 409 4th Avenue. In the second class of this series, from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on Wednesday, July 10, crafters will learn to transform old books into home décor. Supplies will be provided, and anyone of any skill level age 16 or older is invited to participate. Seating is limited; register at bit.ly/LibPrograms. No email? Call 303-651-8472 to register.

Organize Now for National Night Out
The National Night Out crime-prevention event will be held from 6 to 9 pm on Tuesday, August 6, in neighborhoods throughout Longmont. Many neighborhoods are hosting block parties and cookouts that include parades, flashlight walks and youth activities. National Night Out is a great way to build neighborhood unity, and stronger community ties make our neighborhoods safer. For more information and to register your neighborhood, visit LongmontColorado.gov and search “National Night Out” or call 303-774-4440.

The Employment Opportunities, Vendor and Employee Self Service portal applications will be down for system maintenance starting Thursday, Dec. 26, 2024 at 6 pm through Friday, Dec. 27, 2024 at noon. We apologize in advance for this inconvenience.
