Events & Happenings

Practice American Sign Language

The Library’s ASL (American Sign Language) Conversation Group meets Tuesday, May 12 from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. Practice ASL in a relaxed, conversational setting with guidance from volunteers in our local deaf community. Some previous ASL experience is recommended to help you participate, but everyone is welcome. Whiteboards will be available to support communication. No registration required. Learn more at bit.ly/LibAdults or call 303-651-8470.

The Birds and the Bees at the Library

Curious about what keeps our food supply bountiful? Join Boulder County Parks and Open Space at the Library for The Inside Story of Pollination, a program about pollinators, on Saturday, May 16 from 2 to 3:30 pm. While honeybees get the spotlight, beetles, butterflies, moths, wind, and even water all help keep ecosystems healthy. This family-friendly slideshow explains how these partnerships support the plants we rely on every day, and what you can do to help. Register at bit.ly/LibAdults or call 303-651-8472.

Save the Date: Longmont Water Fair

Ever wonder where water goes after you wash your hands or flush the toilet? Find out at the 3rd annual Longmont Water Fair. Through fun activities, art and cool experiments, you’ll trace water’s journey from your drain all the way through Colorado. Plan to join the free, all ages event at the Dickens Farm Nature Area on June 14, 10:30-2. Leave with a better understanding of Colorado water and real, simple steps you can take to protect it for generations to come. Learn more and volunteer at bit.ly/water-fair or call 720-526-2876.

Summer Fun Pass

Spend less time in line and save money. As the summer fun season approaches, purchase a 20-visit, 30-Day, or 3-month Recreation pass. Passes are good for entry at the St Vrain Memorial Building, the Recreation Center, Centennial Pool, and the seasonal outdoor pools. Learn more at bit.ly/longmontrecfees or call 303-774-4700.

Annual Drinking Water Quality Report

Curious where your water comes from? Want to see the results of our most recent water quality tests? The Annual Drinking Water Quality Report is now available at: bit.ly/drinking-water-longmont. Need a printed copy? Visit the Library or Utility Billing office or call 303-651-8416 to request your own.

Elder Exchange Video Documentary

“Where We Meet: Stories of Healing and Hope” is a short documentary capturing a powerful cultural exchange between Longmont seniors and Northern Arapaho elders from Wyoming’s Wind River Reservation. The moving story is told through stunning visuals, personal moments and shared experiences. Watch the video at bit.ly/elder-video.

Toss Your Caps, Not Your Balloons

Longmont’s newest graduates will soon move up in the world , but don’t let the celebrations move up into the power lines! When mylar balloons sail into the skies, their metallic surface can cause short circuit faults and power outages when they get tangled in the lines. So hang on to them tight, deflate them when you’re done, and remember, if anything gets caught in the lines – such a balloon, a kite, or a drone – don’t try to retrieve it yourself. Stay safe, and call Longmont Power & Communications at 303-651-8386.
