National Public Works Week
Instituted in 1960 as a public education campaign, National Public Works Week calls attention to the importance of public works in community life. In Longmont, you can learn more about our Public Works & Natural Resources (PWNR) Department during the week of May 15-21. Educational programming will be offered for adults and children at the Longmont Public Library, and our littlest residents can look forward to PWNR-themed Discovery Days at the Longmont Museum. Shred Your Private Documents for Free
Recycle personal documents safely and securely at this free event. Bring boxed or bagged papers to the Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street between 9 am and 2 pm on Saturday, May 14. Also bring ID and a copy of your most recent Longmont utility bill. This event is for residential documents only; business materials will not be accepted. Reception for Retiring Longmont Judge Diana VanDeHey
The public is invited to a reception from 5:30 to 7 pm on Tuesday, May 24, in honor of retiring Municipal Judge Diana VanDeHey. The reception will be held in the Civic Center at 350 Kimbark Street. For more information call the City Manager’s Office at 303-651-8601.
Peace Officer Memorial
The public is invited to attend the Peace Officer Memorial from 1 to 2 pm on Wednesday, May 18, on the front steps of the Longmont Safety and Justice Building, 225 Kimbark Street. The Longmont Police Department will pay tribute to police officers who lost their lives in the line of duty in 2015.
Sunset Street Bridge Grand Opening
Celebrate and enjoy a first look at the new Sunset Street Bridge during the Grand Opening event from 3:30 to 4:30 pm on Thursday, May 19. Meet at Izaak Walton Park, 18 S. Sunset Street, to join City and Boulder County leaders, pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists eager to cross St. Vrain Creek at Sunset Street. New Hands-on Exhibit Opens at the Museum
All ages are invited to the opening of the Longmont Museum’s newest hands-on family exhibition How People Make Things from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, May 21, at the museum, 400 Quail Road. Explore the exhibition and large construction equipment provided by Longmont Power & Communications, and enjoy snacks and craft projects for children.
