This Week in Longmont – May 25, 2018

City Holiday Hours on Monday
Longmont city government observes the Memorial Day holiday on Monday, May 28. Most City facilities will be CLOSED. The Longmont Recreation Center will be open from 10 am to 4 pm, and Sunset Pool will be open from 10 am to 5 pm. The Longmont Museum, Longmont Public Library and Centennial Pool will be closed May 26-28. Trash, recycling and composting will be collected one day later than normal during the week.

Youth Group Golf Lessons Begin This Week
Golf is a lifelong sport that can be played at any age, so start your kids early! Junior golf group instruction begins Tuesday, May 29, at Twin Peaks Golf Course and Thursday, June 7, at Ute Creek Golf Course. Twin Peaks offers First Step and Next Step camps for ages 18 and younger from 10 am to noon on Mondays and Tuesdays respectively, and Ute Creek offers group lessons for ages 8-17 from 11 am to 12:30 pm on Thursdays. Sign Up Now for Triathlon Weekend
Swim, bike and run! Longmont Recreation & Golf Services, along with Altitude Physical Therapy, presents the annual Longmont Triathlon Weekend for kids and adults June 2-3 at Centennial Pool, 1201 Alpine Street. Race information is available at LongmontColorado.gov/rec (keyword search “Tri”), RaceEntry.com, and Active.com, or pick up a registration form at any City of Longmont recreation facility. Registration ends at noon on Wednesday, May 30, and resumes in person June 1 during packet pickup. Volunteers are needed! Call Sara at 303-774-4771 to volunteer.

TreeHouses: Look Who’s Living in the Trees! 
Explore the forest canopy – indoors! In the Longmont Museum’s newest hands-on exhibition, visitors roam from tree to tree as they discover the many habitats that trees provide for animals large and small, and people too. The opening event from 1 to 4 pm on Saturday, June 2, at 400 Quail Road features live music by kid music sensations Jeff & Paige, live animals and bugs, organizations that support and protect wildlife, family crafts and activities, and snacks. Admission is $8 for adults, $5 for students and seniors, and free for ages 3 and younger and Museum members. Visit LongmontColorado.gov/museum for more information. 

Comment on Draft Open Space Master Plan
The City of Longmont is updating the Open Space Master Plan. This comprehensive plan evaluates our community’s open space needs so we can plan for the future. A formal public comment period for review of the draft plan update is open until June 11. All comments will be provided to City Council as part of their review. Find the draft plan and online comment form at bit.ly/openspaceplan. If you can’t access the information online, call 303-774-4691 for assistance.

Register for Beginning Breakdancing
Head to the Library at 409 4th Avenue from 2 to 4 pm on Tuesday, June 12, for a fun intro to the art of breakdancing. Learn some moves from professional breakdancer Tobias Lopez. This program is for rising 6th through 12th graders only, and no prior experience is necessary. Part of the Teen Tuesdays series. Registration is required at bit.ly/LibTeens. No email address? Longmont Summer Day Camp
If you need daily or occasional childcare this summer, Recreation & Golf Services offers traditional, state-licensed summer day care for children ages 5 to 10 (5-year-olds must have completed kindergarten), and a Tween LOCO camp for ages 11 to 13 beginning Monday, June 4. Eat Out to Support the Museum
Support the Longmont Museum by dining out at Longmont’s Next Door American Eatery, 1232 S. Hover in Village at the Peaks, between 5 and 9 pm on Monday, May 28. When you say you’re there for the Museum, 50 percent of the cost of your meal will be donated to the Museum’s education programs.
