Don’t be burned by your freezer, recycle it!

It can be a pain to clean out the leftovers – especially when an old refrigerator IS the leftover. Make it easier by calling Efficiency Works at 888-463-8414 to haul away your working fridge or freezer at no charge. Or you can take your working appliance to a certified recycling facility yourself and receive a $35 rebate from Efficiency Works when you send photo verification. Find out more by going online to efficiencyworks.org and search “appliance recycling.”

Join your Longmont Librarians from 10-11 am on Friday, June 7 for a special summer event for kids with National Juggling Champion and kinetic comedian Peter Davison! Be safe during “runoff season”

Late spring and early summer is often referred to as Colorado’s “runoff season,” during which snow melt in the mountains fill rivers and creeks heading downstream to the plains. As in every runoff season, many area ditches will be running at or near full capacity to fill local storage reservoirs. For your own safety, residents should be cautious when near ditches and the St. Vrain Creek, especially during the runoff season as currents can be swift, the water is cold, can contain floating debris, and flows can change dramatically without notice. To learn more about stormwater and drainage, visit bit.ly/stormwater-and-drainage.

Beware of heat sicknesses

Rising summer temperatures mean it’s time to watch out for heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Move indoors to an air-conditioned room and drink water if someone feels faint or is sweating heavily. Accessible cooled spaces can include grocery stores and libraries. Seek medical help immediately if sweating stops, body temperature rises above 103 degrees, or skin is flushed, dry and hot to the touch. Learn more about heat emergencies and health at bouldercounty.gov/safety/heat-emergencies.
