This Week in Longmont – May 8, 2015
Be Prepared During Flood Season
The peak season for creek flooding and flash floods in Longmont and surrounding areas runs from April through September. During this time, City of Longmont staff watch conditions in the area with a keen eye, especially after the September 2013 flood. This week, the City’s River Watch program was activated to conduct regular monitoring of conditions in water ways which have the potential to create flooding in Longmont. Fortunately, there is no reason for concern at the moment. Nevertheless, the rainy weather predicted this weekend provides a good opportunity to remind residents about the dangers of flooding and the importance of being prepared. Visit LongmontColorado.gov/flood-info for information on flood preparedness. There, you can view live web cameras to monitor creek conditions, understand factors that can lead to flooding, learn how to be prepared, and, most importantly, find ways to stay informed.
Trail Closures Due to High Water
There are several trail closures around town due to high water from spring runoff and recent rainfall. This is a common occurrence during spring, and it is a function of the intended design of our greenways. You can see that latest closures any time using the Trail Status Map on our GIS: Maps and Webcams webpage.
