Get Your Holidays Started Downtown
The annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony will take place at 6:30 pm on Friday, November 29, in 6th Avenue Plaza at the intersection at 6th Avenue and Main Street. This year’s celebration features music, family craft activities, hot drinks and treats, and giveaway bags for the first few hundred guests. Santa will be there, and we’ll end the fun by lighting the big tree at Main Street. The fun continues the next day for Small Business Saturday on November 30 with ice carving in St. Stephen’s Plaza, holiday characters giving away free t-shirts, and prize drawings at participating businesses. It’s time to plan your Longmont Lights parade float! Don’t miss this opportunity to showcase your organization in lights at 5 pm on Saturday, December 14, during the annual Holiday Parade on Main Street. All parade entries are eligible for prizes. From 7 to 8:30 pm on Thursday, December 5, composer and author Michael Udow will bring his category-defying program to the Longmont Public Library, 409 4th Avenue. Udow will carry his audience on a whirlwind journey combining fun, easy, hands-on examples that relate poetry, math, geography, science and cultural awareness to one another while drawing on concepts presented in his new book “Percussion Pedagogy.” Video examples of music from around the world and videos of Udow working with aspiring musicians are included in the program. Contribute to the Five-year Consolidated Plan
The City of Longmont, as part of the Boulder/Broomfield Consortium, is developing a five-year Consolidated Plan, which is a requirement of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for receiving federal housing and community development funding. Residents and stakeholders are invited to community meetings to share opinions and perceptions about local housing and community development issues and needs. A variety of meeting dates and locations are offered; the Longmont meeting is from 2 to 4 pm on Thursday, December 5, at the St. Vrain Community Hub, 515 Coffman Street.
