This Week in Longmont – November 27, 2020

Longmont Museum Annual Holiday Show
Plan now to attend an entertaining, fundraising holiday extravaganza broadcast live and free from the Longmont Museum’s Stewart Auditorium beginning at 6:30 pm on Saturday, December 5. Enjoy some of your favorite local musicians as they perform original tunes and holiday standards to help get everyone into the mood of the season. The evening also will include live interviews – and the unexpected! And, in classic telethon style, donations will be taken online. Tune in to the Museum’s Facebook page, LongmontPublicMedia.org, or Comcast channel 8/880.

December Shred Event Canceled
The shred event scheduled for Saturday, December 5, at the Waste Diversion Center is canceled. The next shred event is scheduled for January 9, 2021. Due to uncertainty related to COVID-19, please confirm before leaving home that the event is being held. The Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street is open, and there is a designated bin for shredded paper at the drop-off area. For more information and a schedule of 2021 shred event dates, visit bit.ly/paper-shredding.

Use Your Winter Passport and Win!
Longmont’s small businesses need your support now more than ever, and Downtown Longmont offers even more reasons to think and shop locally this holiday season. The Winter Passport program is back, and now is your chance to win a share of thousands of dollars in prizes. This year, every Winter Passport entrant will receive a VIP Shopper card in January with exclusive deals, discounts, and specials. Find more information at DowntownLongmont.com.

Free Mental Health Workshops
The Supporting Action for Mental Health (SAM) committee will present a virtual, no-cost Mental Health Wellness Retreat on December 11 and 12. Attend a variety of workshops for all ages with topics ranging from yoga, couples and parenting to communication, music and many more. All workshops will be presented in English and Spanish, and space is limited for some of them. For more information and to register visit bit.ly/LongmontWorkshops or call 303-651-8580.

Stop the Porch Pirates
The holidays are the season for “porch pirates.” Help keep packages delivered to your porch out of the hands of thieves. Consider an alternative shipping address; ask vendors to require your signature for their deliveries; track your deliveries and be at home when they’re scheduled; and make it look like someone is always home. If you’re the victim of theft please file a police report online. Your information combined with that from others can help police identify the thieves. Visit LongmontColorado.gov and search “online police report.”

Protect Yourself from Identity Theft
Join Longmont Police Detective Steve Desmond from 8:30 to 10 am on Wednesday, December 9, for a virtual workshop on how to protect your identity. You’ll learn about different types of identity theft and what to do if your identity is stolen, as well as how to spot and prevent several types of fraud. Registration is required at bit.ly/FraudSeminar, or call 303-776-2265. This free event is hosted by High Plains Bank in partnership with the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce.
