Author Talk: The Colorado Trail in Crisis
Meet Karl Ford, author of “The Colorado Trail in Crisis,” on Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Longmont Library 409 4th Ave. from 6-7:30 pm. Karl will discuss the ways in which climate change has impacted the ecosystems along the trail. Musical Performances at Callahan House
Pianist Dr. Maria Kurchevskaya Currey and cellist Dr. Katarina Majcen Pliego will perform an evening of salon-style music on Friday, Nov. 8 at the Callahan House, 312 Terry St., 6:15-8:30 pm. Light refreshments will be served beforehand. Ages 10+; tickets are $40. A free all-ages performance, featuring student musicians, is offered on Saturday, Nov. 9, 2-4 pm. Longmont Turkey Trot
Gobble, gobble, gobble, GO! Join the Longmont Turkey Trot fun at 9 am on Saturday, Nov. 9 at Altona Middle School, 4600 Clover Basin Drive. Walk or run a scenic 2-mile or 10k course, including a wheelchair division. Register in person at any Recreation facility or online at the Turkey Trot webpage until noon on Thursday, Nov. 7. Race proceeds help fund community recreation events. Volunteers needed! Call 303-774-4694.
Free Talk: The United States of LEGO
Join the Longmont Museum for a free talk with LEGO builders Billie Abbitt, Evan Couch and Nikki Malone Daniels, whose work can be found in the Museum’s current LEGO exhibit. Renowned for their ability to foster creativity and imagination, the simple building blocks known as LEGO allow individuals to construct anything they can imagine. This emphasis on creativity has not only shaped the way we play, but has also influenced the fields of design, architecture and engineering. Fall Leaf Collection
The City of Longmont’s annual Fall Leaf Collection continues through Nov. 8 for residences south of 9th Avenue. Please remember that all bags must be out before 7 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 4 and should be left out the entire week until collected. Leaves must be placed in bags in order to be picked up. You can pick up paper collection bags from the Longmont Recycling Center at no charge, while supplies last. Only one pass will be made through each neighborhood, so be sure to have your leaves out and ready to be picked up. Any leaf bags put out after City staff pass through your neighborhood will not be collected by the City and will be the responsibility of the homeowner. Thanksgiving Holiday Week Trash Collections will be Monday-Wednesday
The City of Longmont Waste Services’ collection schedule will be changed during the week of Thanksgiving in observance of the Holiday week. Collection schedules will be one day early during the Thanksgiving Holiday week. All bins should be out on the curb before 7 a.m. on their appointed collection day and remain out until they are picked up. If you have questions or your collection was missed, call 303-651-8416 and Longmont Waste Services staff will schedule a time to pick up your collection. Rethink Ability with Adaptive Sports
For more than 50 years, the National Sports Center for the Disabled has led the way in redefining adaptive outdoor experiences. They’ve helped participants reignite a passion for playing and competing in the great outdoors. And they’ve helped athletes, and the world, rethink ability. Art & Sip: LEGO Block Prints
Embrace joy as we play with LEGOs and printmaking in this adult class inspired by the Longmont Museum’s LEGO exhibition! After you make your LEGO creation, you will apply ink and print it on paper. Learn basic block printing skills that you can use at home with LEGO bricks and other common household items. Sessions offered at both 4 pm and 6:30 pm this Thursday, Nov. 7.
