Learn How to Ride the Bus 
From 6 to 7 pm on Wednesday, October 17, the City of Longmont will sponsor a “How to Ride RTD” workshop at which all of your questions about riding the bus will be answered. You’ll learn how to locate a stop, how to read a schedule, how to select the type of transit you need (bus vs. rail), and about fares and passes, specialty rides, Call-n-Ride, and how to access RTD transit by bicycle. An RTD Bus will be available to demonstrate how to board, how to load a bicycle on the bus bike racks, and various other features on the bus. No registration is needed for this workshop at the Longmont Museum, 400 Quail Road.

A Walk Through the Trees
We sit under them and climb in their branches, we pick their fruit, and some of us even hug them – trees are our friends. At 7:15 pm on Thursday, October 18, join award-winning horticulturalist Panayoti Kelaidis, senior curator at the Denver Botanic Gardens, for a special presentation on the lives of trees at the Longmont Museum, 400 Quail Road, in conjunction with its “TreeHouses” exhibition. Take One Step: Meeting on Homelessness
The City asks Longmont residents to work together to guide people onto a path out of homelessness. If everyone takes just one step, we can help the most vulnerable members of our community. Individuals, faith groups, nonprofits, and government agencies are invited to join the community conversation from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on Monday, October 15, at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Avenue. Day of the Dead Kicks Off Downtown
Downtown Longmont businesses will host more than 30 Day of the Dead altars and gigante displays throughout the Downtown district from October 12 through November 3. On 2nd Friday, October 12, guided walking tours will be offered through Downtown, stopping at several locations to hear from the artists and creators. The tour will finish with a round-trip trolley ride to the Longmont Museum for its Day of the Dead exhibition opening celebration. Space is limited; purchase tickets at DowntownLongmont.com. You also are invited to contribute a photo of a deceased loved one to be added to the DDA altar that will be created in St. Stephen’s Plaza from 5 to 9 pm on October 12. Join the Doctors of UCHealth Longmont Clinic to learn tips for staying healthy in Recreation Services’ free presentations from 6 to 7 pm on select Wednesdays at the Longmont Recreation Center, 310 Quail Road. Meet W.E.B. Du Bois in Library Program
Just in time for Veterans Day, the Library invites you to a special Chautauqua performance by seasoned national scholar and presenter Charles E. Pace, who inhabits the life and times of W.E.B. Du Bois through World War I. Du Bois was an author, activist, NAACP founder, and the most influential advocate for African American soldiers’ rights during World War I.
