Meet the Candidates for Longmont City Council
Longmont Channel 8 produced two videos about Longmont council candidates and can be seen at http://www.longmontchannel.com/.  Information about Longmont ballot issues also is available on the Longmont ballot webpage. In addition, the Longmont Landlord Alliance will sponsor a forum with candidates for mayor and city council from 6:30 to 8:15 pm on Wednesday, October 18, at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Avenue. Serve Your City on a Board or Commission
There are 22 boards and commissions that advise the Longmont City Council in a number of areas, including historic preservation, planning and zoning, public art, senior services, transportation, and parks and recreation. Get Spooky with Scary Book Hunt
Get your tweens and teens out of the house on this school day off. Send them to the Library at 409 4th Avenue for a Scary Book Scavenger Hunt from 1 to 3 pm on Monday, October 16. Sixth through 12th graders will hone their detective skills with creepy clues and tasks to solve throughout the Library. Come with a team of friends or come solo and teams will be set up. No registration is required.

Register Now for QuestBotics Coding
Qubes are returning to the Library at 409 4th Avenue on Saturday, October 21, with two sessions. Children ages 6 to 10 can take “Intro to Coding with Qubes” from 1 to 2 pm, and “Level 1 – Calling All Eight Bit Artists” from 3 to 4 pm is for ages 8 to 12 with more knowledge of Qubes. Parents of those age 8 and younger should plan to stay with their children for the duration of the class. The classes are free, but registration is required. Register online at bit.ly/LibKids. Discover the Cleanup Crew at Sandstone
Learn about nature’s cleanup team – vultures, beetles and other creatures – from 10:30 am to noon on Saturday, October 28, at the Sandstone Ranch Visitors & Learning Center, 3001 Sandstone Drive. Enjoy stories and activities, and have a look at who cleans up what! A $2/child or $4/adult suggested donation will be collected at the event. Call 303-651-8404 to reserve your spot. The Visitors Center will be open to the public from 10 am to 2 pm for the last day of the season.

Hear “The Light of Paris” Author
In her latest book “The Light of Paris,” New York Times and international bestselling author Eleanor Brown writes of Paris’s lure as a beacon of independence, art appreciation, and individuality for her heroine who has a life with everything she needs and nothing that matters. Brown will visit the Longmont Public Library, 409 4th Avenue, to talk about her book, as well as her forthcoming anthology, from 7 to 8 pm on Thursday, November 2. Final 2017 Coffee with Council 
Longmont City Council will host the final Coffee with Council for 2017 from 9 to 10 am on Saturday, October 21, at Ziggi’s, 1139 Francis Street. You can talk informally with at least two council members on any topic of your choice, and the coffee’s on us! Mayor Coombs and Council Member Bagley are scheduled to attend.
