It’s time to plan your Longmont Lights parade float! Don’t miss the opportunity to showcase your business or organization in lights at 5 pm on Saturday, Dec. 10, during the annual holiday parade on Main Street. All parade entries are eligible for prizes. Download your entry form and register online at longmontcolorado.gov/LongmontLights. The application deadline is Monday, Dec. 5.
Sister Cities seeks student ambassadors
Applications are available for students interested in participating in the Longmont Sister Cities student exchange program. To be eligible, students must be enrolled in 8th-11th grade in a public, private or charter school within the St. Vrain Valley School District. Student ambassadors have the opportunity to travel to one of Longmont’s sister cities in Japan, Mexico or the Wind River Reservation, Wyo., with a small group of the finest youth in the St. Vrain Valley School area. Bilingual Storytime at Lanyon Park
Meet the Longmont Library’s Ms. Lili at Lanyon Park, 1900 Collyer St., on Saturdays in October and November for a bilingual storytime. Grab the kids, a blanket and head to the park starting at 10 am for fun, dancing, singing, reading and more! All aged children with a grown-up are welcome. NCAR Explorer Series: Predicting Climate
A free conversation with National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) scientists Dr. Stephen Yeager and Dr. Isla Simpson at the Longmont Museum starting at 7 pm on Thursday, Oct. 20. Earth’s climate, weather and biological systems are changing as a result of greenhouse gas emissions, but they also vary naturally with or without human influence. By combining models, observations and future emissions projections, learn how these scientists can predict impactful variations in climate up to a decade in advance. Multicultural Craft Club: Papel picado
Join the Longmont Librarians to learn about and make different crafts from other parts of the world during Multicultural Craft Club from 2-3:30 pm on Sunday, Oct. 23. This session, we’ll be making papel picado! This is a bilingual program and is for the whole family. However, please have an accompanying adult for anyone younger than 9 years old. Ice Pavilion: Learn to skate; join team!
Skate with us in 2022! The Longmont Ice Pavilion, 725 8th Ave., is a seasonal outdoor full-service ice rink facility, offering public ice skating, hockey, skating lessons and private facility rentals. Registration for winter learn-to-skate and adult hockey skills classes is ongoing. There are limited spots available and classes fill quickly. Already an experienced skater? We are now hiring assistant hockey coaches, learn-to-skate instructors, and skate guards. Training begins in early November with the Ice Pavilion season running Nov. 18 through March 9, 2023.
