October is National Community Planning Month
Throughout the month of October, the Planning and Development Services Department will highlight the importance of planning in Longmont, recognizing the Planning & Zoning Commission, staff planners and many of you who work to make Longmont a great place! We will have a variety of activities going on throughout the month including a scavenger hunt, a photo contest, and walking tour.

Breezeway Project Set to Begin
Construction of the Downtown Alleyscape and Breezeway Project, located on the west side of Main Street between 3rd Avenue and 6th Avenue, is scheduled to begin on Monday, October 19. The City of Longmont, in coordination with the Longmont Downtown Development Authority, has contracted with DeFalco Construction Company to complete Phase 2 of the Downtown Alleyscape and Breezeway Project. This project will be similar to the east side alley and breezeway improvements completed in 2013. West-side construction is anticipated to be completed in the fall/early winter of 2016 with a scheduled break for the holiday season.

During the program, the airport’s new logo will be unveiled by its creator, DogCat Marketing. The event is sponsored in part by Longmont Meals on Wheels.

Halloween Zombie Shoot
Zombies are taking over the Longmont Police and Boulder County Sheriff’s Firing Range and Training Center on the weekends through October 31. Come help save the world! You’ll maneuver through a “House of Horrors” using paintball-style handguns in an attempt to locate Dr. Myers and his antidote, on your own or with a team. For additional information and to register visit longmontcolorado.gov/zombie.

Park Shelters Available During Fall and Winter
Park shelter reservations are accepted year-round for events in April through mid-October, but from November through March, shelters are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Special permits are required if you are holding a large event, charging admission, or serving or selling alcohol, regardless of the date. Visit LongmontColorado.gov/rec for more information.

Mind Your Meter When the Snow Flies
October usually begins Longmont’s “snow season,” so on stormy days, take a few minutes to keep your meters visible and accessible. City workers read over 67,000 water and electric meters each month, and a little shoveling can be a big help in getting them all read quickly and accurately. If you’d rather not have that monthly visit to your yard, call 303-651-8386 to ask about a meter that can be read from a distance. For details visit LongmontColorado.gov/lpc then “Electric Service” and “Meter Reading.”
