Art & Sip: Day of the Dead Altar

The ofrenda (altar) is the central feature of the Mexican and Guatemalan holiday Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead). Learn about the history, symbolism and cultural significance of the ofrenda at this Art & Sip class at the Longmont Museum Thursday, Oct. 23 at either 4 pm or 6:30 pm. Participants will make a 3-D book with a tunnel-like visual effect of layered cutouts for each level of the altar for the dead. Learn more and register at Longmont Museum online or by calling 303-651-8374.

War of the Worlds 1938 Radio Play

Join the Longmont Museum on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 7 pm for a live re-creation of one of the most infamous radio broadcasts in history. “War of the Worlds,” directed and narrated by Orson Welles, originally aired nationwide over the Columbia Broadcasting System (CBS) radio network in 1938. Presented in the style of live news bulletins, many listeners believed a real Martian invasion was taking place. Learn more and buy tickets at Longmont Museum online or by calling 303-651-8374.

Don’t Put Your Power Out on a Limb

Home is a cozy place to be when the weather turns cold, until a broken branch takes out your power. Be prepared by having a professional trim your tree limbs away from the power lines. For your safety, please do not do the work yourself. You can find a list of city-licensed tree contractors at Longmont forestry online. To have the power temporarily turned off for tree work, call LPC at 303-651-8386.
