Final 2016 Coffee with Council
Longmont City Council will host Coffee with Council from 9 to 10 am on Saturday, October 22, at the OUR Center, 220 Collyer Street. At this event, you can talk informally with at least two council members on any topic of your choice, and the coffee’s on us! Council members Christensen and Moore are scheduled to attend. Community Forum on Marijuana
The City of Longmont will hold a community forum regarding marijuana home grow plant limitations at 10 am on Saturday, October 22, at the OUR Center, 220 Collyer Street, following Coffee with Council. City staff will provide information about the proposed regulations, and the public can provide feedback about possible limits on the number of plants allowed in Longmont homes.
Free Pharmaceutical Take Back Event
Don’t flush medications down the sink or toilet. Drugs can pass through the wastewater treatment plant and enter St. Vrain Creek. Bring your unused medication to Longmont United Hospital at 1950 Mountain View Avenue between 8 am and 2 pm on Saturday, October 22, to be disposed of properly. Would You Like to Serve Your Community?
Residents are invited to serve as official advisors to the Longmont City Council through participation on boards and commissions. Volunteer committee members research and discuss local issues and provide recommendations to the council. To apply you must be a registered voter of Longmont for at least one year prior to being appointed, and you must reside within Longmont city limits. To see vacancies and to apply, visit LongmontColorado.gov/board-application. The application deadline is 5 pm on Tuesday, November 1. Call 303-651-8649 for more information.
Halloween Parade and Trick or Treat Street
Kids and adults of all ages can be part of Longmont’s annual free costume foot parade at 10 am on Saturday, October 29. Line-up begins at 9:30 in Roosevelt Park, 700 Longs Peak Avenue. Dress in your Halloween costume and march on Main Street then visit participating Downtown merchants for Trick or Treat Street immediately following the parade. No registration is required, and strollers or wagons are recommended for tiny feet. No motorized vehicles are allowed, and dogs are welcome but must be leashed. Free Bicycle Rodeo for Kids
Calling children and bikes to the Boulder County Fairgrounds, Barn A – rain or shine – from 2 to 4 pm on Saturday, October 29, to learn and practice bicycle handling skills and drills in a safe, confined environment. Parents can get information on how to ride safely with their children as well as participate in a family bike ride at 3:30. Take your family to the Longmont Public Library at 409 4th Avenue for a bilingual celebration of Day of the Dead/Fiesta de los Muertos from 3 to 4:30 pm on Sunday, October 30. Enjoy dancing, food, crafts, and more! No registration is required.

Next spring, Longmont will launch a curbside composting program. Get answers to all your questions from 7 to 8 pm on Tuesday, November 15, at the Library, 409 4th Avenue. Register now for the Longmont Turkey Trot on Saturday, November 12, at Altona Middle School. Sign up to run or walk the beautifully scenic 2-mile or 10K course. Registrations are accepted at all City of Longmont recreation facilities or at http://ow.ly/RLw9a. If you have a group of 15 or more who want to participate or if you’re interested in being a volunteer, course marshal, sponsor or vendor, call 303-774-4771.

Ballots were mailed to all active registered voters last week, but you can vote in person if you prefer beginning Monday, October 24. In Longmont, you can vote in person at the St. Vrain Community Hub, 515 Coffman Street, or at Fire Station #5 at Airport and Nelson Roads. Find other area voting locations at BoulderCountyVotes.org. You also can register to vote at these locations. Colorado doesn’t have a registration deadline, but there is a 22-day residency requirement. Remember to bring a valid ID.
