Be prepared for winter!
- Be Prepared for Winter: Become “snow savvy” before the first snow hits! The Longmont Snow Savvy Guide explains how Longmont tackles snow and ice on our streets, sidewalks and trails. Plus, learn what residents are responsible for. LongmontColorado.gov/snow.
- Be a good neighbor and keep fallen leaves out of nearby streams. Rain and melting snow will carry leaves through storm drains directly to local waterways. The nutrients in leaves can harm aquatic ecosystems but are great for composting. Collect fallen leaves and take them to community drop-off events or municipal facilities.
- Freezing winter weather is no friend to sprinkler systems. Water left in the system through freezing temperatures can damage both the system and even your home, causing damaged pipes, flooding, and more. Learn how to drain and blow out your sprinklers from CSU Extension.
Learn about Longmont’s energy future
Take the opportunity to find out more about our community’s energy future. On Nov. 13, the Longmont Museum will host a free community session on the 2024 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) process for Platte River Power Authority, Longmont’s wholesale electric provider owned by Longmont, Loveland, Estes Park and Fort Collins. Once complete in 2024, this plan will serve as a road map for continuing to provide electricity that is reliable, financially sustainable and environmentally responsible. The session starts at 6:30 pm in the Longmont Museum’s Kaiser C Classroom. Find out more about the IRP.
