Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra: “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde”
Mont Alto Motion Picture Orchestra returns to the Longmont Museum this Thursday, Oct. 31 at 7 pm to provide live musical accompaniment for a special Halloween screening of the silent film version of Robert Louis Stevenson’s spine-chilling masterpiece “Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde” (1920, NR). Dr. Jekyll faces horrible consequences when he lets his dark side run wild with a concoction that transforms him into the animalistic Mr. Hyde. Art & Sip: Watercolor Dried Herbs & Flowers
As garden season comes to an end, we can continue to cherish our beloved herbs, plants and flowers. Learn watercolor techniques by painting a lovely, dried plant still life in this class at the Longmont Museum. Sessions offered at both 4 pm and 6:30 pm this Thursday, Oct. 31. Three special storytimes at the Longmont Library
Join your Children’s Librarians for three special storytimes this week at the Longmont Library (409 4th Avenue). Pajama Storytime will be held from 6-6:30 pm on Wednesday, Oct. 30; Halloween Storytime will be held from 10-10:30 am on Thursday, Oct. 31; and Day of the Dead Storytime will be held from 10-10:30 am on Friday, Nov. 1. All storytimes are free and no registration is required.
Clover Meadows Neighborhood Park Grand Opening
Clover Meadows Neighborhood Park, Longmont’s newest park, will host a grand opening celebration on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 9-11 am. The event will have a fall theme, with free apples and cider, and will feature City Manager Harold Dominguez cutting the ribbon, a scavenger hunt and more. In addition to assorted snacks and prizes, there will also be breakfast burritos for the first 50 guests. The fully accessible new park is located at 4850 Heatherhill Street in southwest Longmont. Its amenities include an apple orchard, a bicycle skills course, a large playground, and a bicycle-themed Art in Public Places installation.
Celebrate Día de Muertos at Sandstone Ranch
Join Ms. Lili from the Longmont Public Library from 10 am-noon on Saturday, Nov. 2 at Sandstone Ranch Visitors & Learning Center, 3001 Sandstone Drive, for a family fun day full of singing, dancing, crafts and more to celebrate Día de Muertos! Join Longmont’s Native American Heritage Month Celebration
Longmont’s Native American Heritage Month Celebration will be held on Saturday Nov. 2, from 11 am to 3:45 pm, at the Longmont Senior Center (910 Longs Peak Ave). This free event was created to foster awareness and healing by bridging the gap between the Longmont community and the original people of this land. It’s open to the public and features family activities, Native dancers and drummers, storytelling, food, giveaways and more. Learn more at the NAHM webpage.
Noche de Museo: Celebrating Day of the Dead
Join the Longmont Museum Saturday, Nov. 2 at 7 pm for an evening of live performance in celebration of Día de Muertos that will span the ages, from ancient Aztecan dance to the genre-bending rock and roll of iZCALLi. This annual community celebration of a centuries-old Mexican tradition has quickly become part of the cultural fabric of Longmont! World Day of Remembrance event on Nov. 3
The community is invited to Longmont’s first-ever World Day of Remembrance event on Sunday, Nov. 3, 4-6 pm at the Izaak Walton Clubhouse (18 S Sunset St). This will be a safe space to honor people who have lost their lives or been seriously injured in traffic crashes. Info at Vision Zero webpage.
Spirit of the Peaks film screening
Longmont’s Parks Open Space and Trails is celebrating Native American Heritage Month with a film. Join us for a screening of “Spirit of the Peaks” on Monday, November 4 from 5:30 to 6:45 pm at 7 South Sunset Street. “Spirit of the Peaks” tells the story of skier and Hunkpapa Lakota Connor Ryan and explores the complexities of identity that arise from navigating two worlds. A discussion, snacks and beverages will follow the screening. Registration is required for this free event on the Film Screening registration form.
See the world with Longmont Sister Cities
Do you know a SVVSD student who loves to travel and learn about new culture? The City of Longmont offers an incredible experience for SVVSD students to visit our 3 sister cities: Chino, Japan; Ciudad Guzman, Mexico; and the Northern Arapaho, Wind River Reservation. Students participate in a short exchange during the summer. Students stay with host families and get to learn about a new place from the people who live there. Program costs are affordable (trips start at $50) and scholarships are available. Learn more and apply on the Sister Cities website.
Author Talk: The Colorado Trail in Crisis
Author Karl Ford will speak about his book, “The Colorado Trail in Crisis,” on Thursday, Nov. 7 at the Longmont Library 409 4th Ave. from 6-7:30 pm. He’ll discuss the ways in which climate change has impacted the ecosystems along the trail. Musical Performances at Callahan House
Pianist Dr. Maria Kurchevskaya Currey and cellist Dr. Katarina Majcen Pliego will perform an evening of salon-style music from 6:15-8:30 pm, Friday, Nov. 8 at the Callahan House, 312 Terry St. Wine and light hors d’oeuvres will be served before the performance. This event is for ages 21+ and tickets are $50 per person.
