On Nov. 13, the Longmont Museum will host a free community session on the 2024 Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) process for Platte River Power Authority, Longmont’s wholesale electric provider owned by Longmont, Loveland, Estes Park and Fort Collins. Once complete in 2024, this plan will serve as a road map for continuing to provide electricity that is reliable, financially sustainable and environmentally responsible. The session starts at 6:30 pm in the Longmont Museum’s Kaiser C Classroom. Find out more about the IRP at the PRPA website.

Make sure to water your trees!

Fall in Colorado can be dry, so it is extremely important to water trees. Soil moisture insulates tree roots and supports the tree’s ability to survive cold snaps. Aim to water trees and shrubs once per month from October through March if there hasn’t been about 1 inch of natural precipitation. Apply water midday when the temperature is above 40 degrees. Water the area using a hose end sprinkler, extending from the base of the tree to the edge of the longest branches in the tree canopy. As a general survival rule, apply 10 gallons of water for each diameter inch of the tree. Learn more about fall and winter watering at CSU Extension website.
