Marijuana Survey
The City of Longmont is looking at options to regulate marijuana cultivation for personal use. Staff and city council members are interested in better understanding the needs of people currently growing in their homes and the needs of medical users regarding the number of plants they are growing to treat their medical conditions. Share your feedback with the City by completing a short, anonymous survey at bit.ly/marijuana-survey. The deadline to complete the survey is 5 pm on Sunday, October 16.

Shred Your Private Documents for Free
Safely and securely recycle your private documents.Take your boxed or bagged documents to be shredded to the Waste Diversion Center at140 Martin Street between 9 am and 2 pm on Saturday, October 8. This event is for residential documents only; no business materials will be accepted. Also take iidentification and a copy of your most recent Longmont utility bill. Find Local Resources for Your Small Business
Longmont Public Library’s small business workshop series “Blazing the Trail to Small Business Success” continues with a program offering information about local resources available to support small businesses from 6 to 8 pm on Tuesday, October 11, at 409 4th Avenue. The series offers workshops on the second Tuesday of every month in collaboration with the Longmont Economic Development Partnership and Coffee and Connections. Registration is not required.

Tenant Screening: Cutting through the Confusion
The Longmont Landlord Alliance presents Jeff Malone from Rental Services, Inc., to discuss what to look for in a screening company and the difference between online and traditional screening. You’ll also learn about the differences between the types of criminal information available. This free program is from 6:30 to 8:30 pm on Wednesday, October 12, at the Longmont Senior Center, 910 Longs Peak Avenue. Longmont Sister Cities Accepting Applications
Longmont Sister Cities Association is accepting applications for student ambassadors and chaperones to participate in the 2017 summer exchange to Mexico or Japan. The deadline to apply is October 31, 2016. Successful candidates live or go to school within the boundaries of the St. Vrain Valley school district. Register for No-school Day Activities
October 14 and 17 are SVVSD no-school days. Recreation Services has something for everyone on these days, including babysitter training and swim instructor aide classes as well as computer programming and SpaceTime solar system camps. Or just visit one of our three facilities and play! For children age 5 and younger, Itty Bitty City offers a gym full of fun from 9 to 11 am on Friday, October 14, at the Memorial Building. Waste Diversion Center Hours Change
Saturday, October 15, marks the start of fall/winter hours at Longmont’s Waste Diversion Center at 140 Martin Street. It will be open from 7:30 am to 4:45 pm Monday through Saturday and closed on Sundays and holidays. Single-stream recycling bins are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Parents’ Night Out
Drop your children ages 5 to 10 at Centennial Pool, 1201 Alpine Street, from 5 to 9 pm on Saturday, October 15, for a fun, supervised evening of swimming and a movie while you enjoy a night out. A light dinner and snacks are included. The cost is $20 per resident with a $2 multichild discount. Call 303-651-8406 to register in advance; day-of registration not available.

Park Restrooms to Close October 15 for Winter
Many park restrooms close each fall in advance of winter’s frost to prevent damage to the above-ground plumbing, which is not designed to withstand winter temperatures. The City places portable toilets in several high-traffic areas for use throughout the winter. Park shelter reservations are not accepted for winter months when restrooms are winterized, but shelters still can be used on a first-come, first-served basis. Sign Up for Boulder County’s Ballot Track
Know where your ballot is at all times! Boulder County voters can sign up for Boulder County Votes Ballot Track to receive messages by email, text or phone when your ballot has been printed, mailed, and received back at the Boulder County Elections Division Ballot Processing Center during election periods. Your ballot remains anonymous, and you can easily manage notification preferences. Register now at BoulderCountyVotes.org. Ballots will be mailed the week of October 17.
