Comment on Ballot Issues by Next Friday
City of Longmont registered voters have until noon on Friday, September 21, to turn in comments on three ballot issues concerning the sale of bonds that will appear on the November 6 coordinated election ballot. The comments will be summarized and included in an information packet that will be mailed to registered voters’ homes prior to the election. Comments must be written and labeled clearly as either pro or con, and voters submitting comments must include their name and address for their comments to be included. Written comments are accepted at the Longmont City Clerk’s Office, 350 Kimbark Street, Longmont, CO 80501. Household Hazardous Chemical Drop-off Day
The City will host the annual Household Chemical Drop-off Day from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturday, September 15, at the Public Works facility, 375 Airport Road. Take your current City of Longmont utility bill to show that you’re a City Waste Services customer. Accepted materials include cleaners, solvents, pesticides, aerosol cans, paint and other chemical wastes generated from homes. Items not accepted include commercial and business wastes, biological wastes, medical wastes, medicines, radioactive materials, compressed gas cylinders, explosives, fireworks, ammunition and fire extinguishers. Sign Up for the Longmont Planning Academy
The City of Longmont is offering a four-class course to engage residents in the City’s planning process. The academy will meet from 6 to 8:30 pm on Thursdays beginning October 18. Participants will learn about the Envision Longmont comprehensive plan and the City’s development review process and gain confidence in participating in City planning efforts. Free Guided Bird Walks at Sandstone Ranch
Local birder Carl Starace will guide you around the Sandstone Ranch loop trail at 8:30 am on Tuesday, September 18, and identify many of the bird species that call Sandstone home. The walk begins at the covered picnic shelter at the southeast corner of the soccer fields at 3001 Sandstone Drive. No registration is required, and participants should bring binoculars and dress for the weather. The next walk is scheduled for October 2.

Historic Tree Tour of Thompson Park
Take a guided walking tour of the historic trees in Thompson Park beginning at 10 am on Wednesday, September 26. City of Longmont Forestry Department staff will talk about notable trees in the park as well as the emerald ash borer beetle and how the City is managing the invasive species. Register for Teen Takeover at the Library
Teens and tweens will take over the library for one big night, and the theme is Halloween! Teen Takeover Saturday from 6 to 9 pm on Saturday, October 13, will feature a costume contest, spooky stories, and, of course, pizza and soda.
