Comment on Ballot Issues by Next Friday
City of Longmont registered voters have until noon on Friday, September 21, to turn in comments on three ballot issues concerning the sale of bonds that will appear on the November 6 coordinated election ballot. The comments will be summarized and included in an information packet that will be mailed to registered voters’ homes prior to the election. Comments must be written and labeled clearly as either pro or con, and voters submitting comments must include their name and address for their comments to be included. Written comments are accepted at the Longmont City Clerk’s Office, 350 Kimbark Street, Longmont, CO 80501. Household Hazardous Chemical Drop-off Day
The City will host the annual Household Chemical Drop-off Day from 9 am to 1 pm on Saturday, September 15, at the Public Works facility, 375 Airport Road. Take your current City of Longmont utility bill to show that you’re a City Waste Services customer. Accepted materials include cleaners, solvents, pesticides, aerosol cans, paint and other chemical wastes generated from homes. Items not accepted include commercial and business wastes, biological wastes, medical wastes, medicines, radioactive materials, compressed gas cylinders, explosives, fireworks, ammunition and fire extinguishers. Sign Up for the Longmont Planning Academy
The City of Longmont is offering a four-class course to engage residents in the City’s planning process. The academy will meet from 6 to 8:30 pm on Thursdays beginning October 18. Participants will learn about the Envision Longmont comprehensive plan and the City’s development review process and gain confidence in participating in City planning efforts. Free Guided Bird Walks at Sandstone Ranch
Local birder Carl Starace will guide you around the Sandstone Ranch loop trail at 8:30 am on Tuesday, September 18, and identify many of the bird species that call Sandstone home. The walk begins at the covered picnic shelter at the southeast corner of the soccer fields at 3001 Sandstone Drive. No registration is required, and participants should bring binoculars and dress for the weather. The next walk is scheduled for October 2. 

Inclusive Communities Celebration
The City of Longmont and the Longmont Multicultural Action Committee invite you to the Inclusive Communities Celebration from 6 to 9 pm on Friday, September 21, at the Longmont Museum, 400 Quail Road. Historic Tree Tour of Thompson Park
Take a guided walking tour of the historic trees in Thompson Park beginning at 10 am on Wednesday, September 26. City of Longmont Forestry Department staff will talk about notable trees in the park as well as the emerald ash borer beetle and how the City is managing the invasive species. Meet at the corner of 5th Avenue and Bross Street. The cost is $5. Register at LongmontMuseum.org or call the Longmont Museum at 303-651-8374.

Register for Teen Takeover at the Library
Teens and tweens will take over the library for one big night, and the theme is Halloween! Teen Takeover Saturday from 6 to 9 pm on Saturday, October 13, will feature a costume contest, spooky stories, and, of course, pizza and soda. Hear Local Author Discuss Mountain Living
In her new book “Rough Beauty: 40 Seasons of Mountain Living,” author, poet, mountain woman, and CU professor Karen Auvinen traces her journey recovering from a devastating fire that burned not only family treasures but every word she’d ever written and reconciling her love of solitude with her need for community. Show Your Colors For Public Power Week
Community-owned electricity from Longmont Power & Communications has helped make Longmont a more colorful place for over 100 years. Now you and your family can get out your crayons to help celebrate that – and get a chance to win a $50 downtown gift card – in LPC’s coloring contest for Public Power Week, October 7-13. Just download a coloring sheet from the Public Power Week 2018 page on longmontcolorado.gov/publicpowerweek, color it in, finish the sentence “I love LPC’s electricity because …”, and send it to us. City Survey is in the Mail
The City of Longmont is conducting its biennial Customer Satisfaction Survey. About 3,000 Longmont households have been randomly selected to participate. If you receive a survey in the mail, please return it as quickly as you can using the prepaid envelope. It won’t take much of your time to make a big difference!
