Using the Trails, Greenways Safely
Where there are no cars, we are safe. Right? The chaos that trail-users experience can be fraught and discouraging. So, how does one safely use the many miles of trails in and around Longmont? Try these tips:

  • Make sure you’re maintaining a safe speed and providing and audible signal before passing.
  • Bikes yield to pedestrians; pedestrians yield to horses/people on horses.
  • ALWAYS stay to the right when approaching and going through a tunnel; sometimes tunnels can be “blind” on the other side.
  • When biking with kids, kids should stay on the right, and it is best (safest) is for parents to ride behind the child.

Learn more what you should do as a pedestrian and as a cyclist on the trails by visiting LongmontColorado.gov and searching “Traffic Safety” to find classes, tips and more. Email lauren.greenfield@longmontcolorado.gov to receive a free bike bell if you are a Longmont resident.
