Rhythm at Roosevelt: Sept. 16

Enjoy free activities and family fun from 2-10 pm on Saturday, Sept. 16 in Roosevelt Park, 700 Longs Peak Ave., at the newly located Rhythm music festival. Dance to the electrifying sounds of the Wash Park Band, the B-Love Experience, 2MX2, and the Tierro Band with Bridget Law. Glide on our pop-up roller skating rink, explore Bricks Marketplace, conquer the thrilling ropes course, and so much more! Flood commemoration events

On the week of Sept. 11, 2013, the city of Longmont and the surrounding Front Range experienced a devastating flood, one that deeply impacted the lives of our residents and the footprint of our city. This month, we will be commemorating the 10th anniversary since the flood, and highlighting all the ways our community emerged stronger, safer, and more resilient from this devastating event.

· Photo Exhibit at Longmont Museum: Visit the exhibition of photographs taken by community members of the 2013 Flood at the Longmont Museum. Opening event Thursday, Sept. 14 at 6 pm featuring remarks by Museum Director Erik Mason. Free, no registration required.

· Motus Playback Improv Theatre’s “Stories Of The Flood”: 7 pm on Thursday, Sept. 14, Longmont Museum, Free; registration strongly encouraged at the Longmont Museum webpage or by calling 303-651-8374. Come and share a short reflection about your experience of the flood, and then watch professional playback actors enact your story on the spot.

· City Tour: Join us for an hour-long tour around the city on the Brewhop Trolley. 10 am, 11 am or noon on Saturday, Sept. 16. Free. Registration required at the Flood webpage.

Serve on a City board or commission!

The City Council has opened their bi-annual recruitment to fill vacancies on City boards and commissions. This is a great opportunity to make your voice heard and take a more active role in your community. All applicants must be registered voters and a Longmont resident for at least one year prior to being appointed. Applications must be submitted by 5 pm on Friday, Oct. 13. Gang Response and Intervention Program

Parenting doesn’t come with a manual — it can be hard to know what’s going on with your kids. Join the Longmont Youth Center for a free class from 6-8 pm on Monday, Sept. 18 at Lashley St. Station, 1200 Lashley St., designed to help families learn about local gangs and how to keep family members from joining them. History and Tradition of Botanical Art

Trace botanical art from its earliest use on tombs in 500 BC to the modern day during this free presentation at the Longmont Public Library from 6:30-7:30 pm on Thursday, Sept. 14! Through the examples in this presentation, you will have an idea of the beauty and breadth of botanical art as a continuing tradition. This presentation is developed by the American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA), an organization of individuals and institutions who share and interest and appreciation of the tradition and contemporary practice of botanical art. This event is free, however registration is required at the Library Programs webpage or by calling 303-651-8472.

Efficiency Works offering triple rebates

Through Sept. 30, Efficiency Works is offering triple rebates to all-electric homes on a number of efficiency improvements, including air sealing and insulation, heat pumps and more. Find out more at the Efficiency Works website.

Waste Services celebrates 75 years!

Longmont Waste Services began 75 years ago this month with trash collection and a local landfill. Over the years, the service expanded and modernized and has made a number of improvements such as progressing toward becoming a zero-waste community, developing a natural gas extraction project to fuel sanitation trucks, and launching the Waste Services app. Visit the Waste Services webpage to see where Longmont Waste Services is headed for the next 75 years, and make sure to sign up for the Waste Services app.
