Union Reservoir Dog Beach Reopens, Swim Beach Capacity Increases

The Union Reservoir Dog Beach will reopen on Monday, Aug. 3 with the following guidelines in place:

  • Dogs are allowed off leash and may swim in this designated area on the south side of the reservoir. Dogs must be leashed in all other areas of the park.
  • Only persons with dogs are allowed in the off-leash area and dog beach. Please limit your visit to 45 minutes or less to allow others use as well.
  • No more than 25 dogs are allowed in the off-leash area and dog beach at one time. If this capacity has been reached, please wait until someone leaves.

Additionally, the swim beach capacity has increased to 75 people at one time. Once the 75-person capacity has been reached, no other swimmers will be allowed on the beach until someone leaves.

Swim beach hours are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily. No open water swims are scheduled at this time.

Swim beach expectations:

  • The swim beach area will be fenced off to maintain the 75-swimmer capacity.
  • Staff will be at the entrance to monitor the 75-swimmer capacity.
  • Lifeguards will be present.

General guidelines for visiting apply to both the off-leash area/dog beach and swim beach:

  • Please stay home if you are experiencing symptoms associated with the novel coronavirus, have been in contact with someone with COVID-19 within the past 14 days, or are in a vulnerable population (older adults and those with underlying health conditions).
  • Patrons are expected to wear a face covering into and out of the Reservoir and any time social distancing cannot be maintained. Face coverings are not required while actively swimming.
  • Patrons are expected to maintain 6-foot social distancing from those people not from the same household. This rule applies both in and out of the water.

Please plan your visit accordingly. The reservoir can reach capacity between 9:30 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. on weekends, and the wait to enter the park can be up to two hours. Learn more about Union Reservoir at bit.ly/union-reservoir-longmont.
