Views & Brews Fall Film Series begins this week at the Longmont Museum
WHAT: Classic and cult Halloween films are coming to Boulder County this season with the Views & Brews Fall Film Series, hosted in the Longmont Museum’s new 250-seat Stewart Auditorium. The series runs Thursday nights, September 24 – November 5, featuring movies including The Shining and the Rocky Horror Picture Show. Beginning at 6 pm, the doors to the Museum will re-open for the evening with exhibits open late, pre-show entertainment, and a lounge with local microbrews, wines and spirits available for purchase. Feature films begin at 7: 15 pm.
“This is a great night out on the town,” said Museum Director Wes Jessup. “Come early for drinks and fun, and stay for the film. The Museum’s state-of-the-art theatre is a dynamic place to relive an old favorite with friends or see a classic film for the first time.”
Edward Scissorhands, Sept. 24, Rated PG- In a castle high on top of a hill lives an inventor’s greatest creation – Edward, a near-complete person. The creator died before he could finish Edward’s hands; instead, Edward is left with metal scissors for hands.
The Shining, Oct. 1, Rated R – Called “a masterpiece of modern horror” by the critics, Stanley Kubrick’s film is a chilling adaptation of Stephen King’s novel. The Shining combines eerie special effects and haunting performances by Jack Nicholson.
28 Days Later, Oct. 8, Rated R – A virus accidentally released from a research facility has devastated the entire planet. The human race is faced with extinction. A handful of survivors are left to salvage a future from the apocalypse.
Young Frankenstein, Oct. 15, Rated PG – A young neurosurgeon (Gene Wilder) inherits the castle of his grandfather, the famous Dr. Victor von Frankenstein. Assisted by the hunchback Igor and Inga, his attractive lab assistant, he successfully reanimates a body which soon escapes.
Donnie Darko Oct. 22, Rated PG-13 – Donnie Darko is a disturbed adolescent from a semi-functional upper-middle class family. After escaping from near death because he hears the voice of a six foot tall bunny, Donnie is led by the bunny to create havoc that is both destructive and creative.
Rocky Horror Picture Show, Oct 29, Rated R – Probably the oddest cult film ever made, this kinky rock’n’roll science fiction horror satire is everybody’s favorite midnight show. A young couple stumbles into a castle inhabited by weirdos from the planet Transylvania including Dr. Frank N. Furter (Tim Curry), a transvestite Frankenstein in rhinestone heels.
V for Vendetta, Nov. 5, Rated R – Remember, remember the 5th of November! Based on the graphic novel series, this story revolves around a mysterious freedom fighter known only as “V.” In the futuristic landscape of totalitarian Britain, this rebel ignites a revolution.
WHEN: Thursday nights, September 24 – November 5. Museum doors open at 6 pm for pre-show entertainment, bar, galleries and lounge. Films begin at 7:15 pm.
