What the Heck is WiFi6? (Full Speed Ahead Blog)

If you’ve hung around NextLight for any length of time, you’ve seen a lot of mentions of WiFi6. Maybe you’ve seen it offered free for one month. Or suggested for managing your home internet needs. Or presented as great for your music collection … no, wait, that one’s HiFi. Sorry about that.

But maybe you have a more basic question: Why should I care? What is this Wifi6 stuff anyway?

Fair enough. Here’s the quick rundown.

  • It’s wireless. Ok, maybe that one went without saying – but we’ll say it. Your main NextLight connection is still that crazy-fast fiber-optic line to your home or business. A WiFi6 router lets you bring all your other devices into the game – your smartphone, your tablet, or your smart TV binging five more seasons of your favorite show.
  • It’s everything, everywhere, all at once. WiFi6 isn’t just wireless – it’s really good wireless. It captures more of those amazing NextLight speeds than any previous router and shares them with more devices over a wider area. Basically, it makes your entire home an internet fast lane.
  • It’s got some super-helpful tools. Fast is great, but fast-plus-useful is even better. That’s why we include stuff like ExperienceIQ, which helps you prioritize your family’s internet traffic, add parental controls and even give a “bedtime” to particular devices. Or ProtectIQ, our built-in layer of security for your network. All of it’s managed through our NextLight app, so that the good stuff is just a smartphone click away.
  • It’s part of some great deals. New customers can try out one free month of Wifi6 and gigabit service. Existing customers who have gig service can add free WiFi6 for one month. And in both cases, you can lock in a great lifetime rate if you keep the combination of WiFi6 and the gig after the free period ends. Those offers are available through Sept. 30, so give yourself a chance to check them out.

So now that you know, give that WiFi6 a try. After all, it’s got a lot to offer.

No question.
