Resilient Together Project: Neighborhood Cooling and Community Building - City of Longmont Skip to main content
A park is seen with green grass and leafy green trees.

Overview

Based on the extensive community engagement and heat mapping, this project will install parks-cooling amenities at Kensington, Lanyon and Spangler Neighborhood Parks. Elements like shade structures, swings, gathering spaces, and water feature will be added to these parks.

Schedule

Design is ongoing. First phase of construction started 6/18/2025 at Lanyon and Kensington Parks and is anticipated to be completed before the end of 2025. A community gathering space and a shade shelter will be added Kensington Park near existing labyrinth. A swing set will be installed by the playground. At Lanyon Park a gathering space and a misting feature will be constructed east of the playground. Construction at Spangler is anticipated to begin in fall to install a shade shelter by the playground.

Due to additional funding from Great Outdoors Colorado this project will have a second phase to design and install a splash pad at Kensington Park. We have gathered feedback from residents via a survey, as well as met with children at the Youth Center and the Columbine Elementary School to best satisfy the needs of the future users. Construction of splash pad is anticipated in 2026.

This map shows on overview of Lanyon park, with some new seating added in the top third of the map, a misted just below that, an existing playground on left side of the map, and an existing shade shelter at the bottom of the map.
