Charles A. Ball moved from Durango, Colorado and purchased the jewelry business of Loyd E. Gardner in December 1917. Ball would call his new business Ball Jewelry and Optical.

Mr. Ball continued to handle both jewelry and optical until 1928 when he would sell the jewelry half of the business to J.C. Wehrman.
