David Dobbins was a well-respected real estate broker and development in Longmont. He was born in in Longmont in 1880 and was from an old Longmont Pioneer family. Mr. Dobbins married Jessie Mayo, of Denver, in 1905 and they made their home at 417 Collyer Street. Mr. Dobbins served as city councilman from Ward 1 in 1925 and 1926. The Dobbins never lived at 509 Collyer Street, but he is given credit for the building of the residence.

Mr. Dobbins sold the house and lot to Mr. William C. Pierce in 1919 for the sum of $10.00 and other considerations (that being Longmont farmland). Mr. Pierce moved to Longmont in 1896 and took up farming. He was married to Mary Catherine Sullivan and they had one daughter. It is believed that the Pierce's lived at this residence until 1922, at which time the house was rented to Mr. E.E. Lutes and family, while their home was being built at 1008 5th Avenue.
