Overview
Thompson Park is one of the very first parks dedicated to the City of Longmont. It is located at 420 Bross Street in the Historic West Neighborhoods. This park is well loved for the shade provided by massive trees that make up the park’s arboretum and the serene atmosphere created by open lawn space and a beautiful garden. The rich history of the park includes agricultural use, community fairs, and grand music events. Aging amenities and play structures have marked this park for a renewal project in 2024.
Construction Update
We are thrilled to announce that after months of construction and enhancements, Thompson Park has reopened. We hope you enjoy the new features and refreshed look of the park. Please note:
- Restroom enhancements are set to take place in the coming weeks and will be completed well ahead of the neighborhood park’s seasonal restroom openings in April. For public safety, this area will remain fenced off as construction is finalized.
- Areas designated for new seed and sod will remain roped off until warmer temperatures allow for proper growth and establishment. This should not significantly impact public access.
- Intermittent work will continue through mid-April, with minimal disruption, until full construction acceptance.
We would love to hear your thoughts. Please contact us using the information below to share your feedback.
Grand Opening Event Coming Soon!
We’re planning a special celebration to mark the occasion on Saturday, April 26 from 1-3 pm. Stay tuned for details on the event, activities and more.
Thompson Park Renewal Plan
The intention of the Thompson Park renewal project is to reconstruct deteriorating infrastructure, alleviate safety concerns, and ensure ADA compliance. An extensive public process was carried out fall/winter of 2023 to understand the needs of the community through public meetings, school charrettes, and social media outreach. The final plan set will incorporate elements from the public feedback, provide inclusive features, and deliver additional smaller upgrades all of which will illuminate the unique characteristics of the park.
Thompson Park Renewal Elements
- Complete removal and replacement of the two existing reservable shelters with a size increase to accommodate park patrons. Add new tables, grills, and trash receptacles at each shelter with electrical improvements.
- Playground renovation to include footprint expansion and new play structures to accommodate all ages and abilities with additional seating. The playground will be forest themed to compliment the Thompson Park Arboretum and encourage imaginative play.
- Sidewalk alterations that will resolve ADA inadequacies and enhance flow throughout the high use areas of the park.
- Upgraded water fountain in a new central location
- Stainless fixtures and new door hardware for the restroom
- Sign upgrades
