The Longmont Department of Public Safety is partnering with the Police Assisted Addiction and Recovery Initiative (P.A.A.R.I.) to help city of Longmont residents struggling with substance use.  Rather than arrest our way out of the problem the Longmont Department of Public Safety and P.A.A.R.I. are committed to:

• Encouraging people to connect with Longmont Department of Public Safety (LDPS) Case Management Services for support linking to recovery resources. .
• Helping connect Angel participants with recovery resources
  
• Helping connect Angel participants in recovery with employment
• Helping distribute lifesaving opioid blocking drugs to prevent and treat overdoses.
• Providing resources to other police departments and communities that want to do more to fight the epidemic.

While working in partnership with recovery resources along the front range, the LDPS Case Management Services strives to make a difference in the health and safety of our community by building human connection and care for community members seeking support to improve quality of life. This will, we believe, impact the overall trends of substance use in our community and build a community equipped to address behavior associated with substance use in a safe, healthy and productive manner.

If you or someone you know needs help:

Those seeking assistance can walk into the Longmont Police Department at any time. You are more likely to connect with a peer case manager Monday through Friday between the hours of 8am-5pm. If you walk in outside of these hours, a peer case manager will follow-up with you the following business day.

The Angel program is a voluntary program. In order to apply and receive ongoing case management services, we ask you or the person you believe needs assistance to contact with our peer case managers directly.  Please understand that sometimes it takes time to find long-term resources. Angel participants may be provided temporary alternative options to get them started.

A list of  treatment providers is also available for those that seek to find help on their own.

Eligibility - All persons living within the Longmont city limits seeking help are encouraged to apply.

Please note: Treatment providers have restrictions on placement as established by licensing. Due to licensing restrictions, some participants may not be eligible for residential treatment and some out-patient treatment.

Some examples include:

• Persons who within the last five years have two or more felony arrests or conviction for violent crimes against a person, felony domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or use of a deadly weapon in the commission of a crime.
• Persons who are required to register as a sex offender.
• Persons with a history of arson arrest or convictions.

Other areas which may need to be addressed or may be a concern for a treatment provider:

• If  you have an outstanding arrest warrant, the Longmont Police Department is required to make an arrest. During your arrest, an officer will start an Angel intake application. A case manager will attempt to follow up with you while you are in custody or soon after your release.
• Persons under age 15 and do not have a parent or guardian with them to provide consent.
• Persons with pending criminal charges or court dates.

The Longmont Department of Public Safety (LPDS) continue to seek three types of resources to support our Angel Initiative:

1. LPDS is seeking treatment providers in the state and along the I-25 corridor from Pueblo to Fort Collins.

Angel Treatment Providers -  They are treatment providers who have expressed an interest in partnering with us to offer, when necessary, scholarships and treatment such as : (ie detox, inpatient, outpatient, medicinal, after care, sober living, and counseling).

These providers must be able to provide the following:

• A list of treatment services that will be provided
• Licenses and certifications for the state the operation occurs in
• The commitment to a 24-hour turnaround time from the request for treatment
• The ability to provide 2 scholarship treatment plans (preferably per month but this can be discussed)
• A 24-hour contact person and telephone number, and the ability to reach this party

2.   We are seeking Angel employers. These employers are committed to offering a hand up for Angel Participants in recovery by providing an Angel Participant with 30 hours per week for two months of temporary employment.  The goal of our Angel Employer Program is stability, relationships, job skills and transition.
