Food Truck Longmont Fire Inspection

Longmont Fire and Inspection Permitting for Food Trucks

Mobile Food Vehicles (MFV) are used at large and small events in varying capacities. The adopted fire code establishes requirements for these operations and are required to be adhered to whether they are used for a permitted special event or not. The Longmont Fire Department has adopted the requirements outlined by the Fire Marshals Association of Colorado’s (FMAC) Mobile Food Vehicle Pre-Inspection Checklist.

The intent behind the FMAC program is to try and provide consistency in the inspection process for these vehicles across the state of Colorado. This comprehensive inspection form is intended to only serve as a means of inspection and does not eliminate the need to meet any local licensing requirements or meeting locally amended provisions. The subcommittee that developed these documents worked with individuals from the mobile food vehicle community and they were accepting of this inspection process. The overall goal of this process is to eliminate the need for a mobile food vehicle to receive an inspection in each jurisdiction that they work in.

MFV’s shall be compliant with the adopted fire code in the following areas:
• Fire protection systems
• Means of egress
• Electrical and mechanical systems
• Cooking oil storage
• Compressed gasses
• Compressed natural gas (CNG) systems
• Liquefied petroleum (LP) gas systems
• Separation from fire hydrants and fire lanes
• Separation from buildings, building exits, structures, combustible materials, and other cooking operations

Requirements

  • All food trucks operating within the city limits must have a Longmont sales and use permit
  • All food trucks operating within the Longmont city limits approval from the Colorado Health Department in Boulder County or Weld County.
