RTD

The Regional Transportation District (RTD) is the public transportation service provider for the Denver Metro region, and it includes bus service to/from Longmont. RTD services are funded through a combination of federal transportation dollars, fares and a 0.6 percent sales tax (6 cents for every $10 dollar purchase). Because one option does not fit all users, RTD attempts to provide appropriate service for different situations and users. Service types include:

  • Bus Service: Local, Express, and Regional
  • Light or Commuter Rail Service (does not currently extend to Longmont)
  • FlexRide (formerly Call-n-Ride) offers curb-to-curb service, like a taxi, within Longmont
  • Park-n-Ride
  • Bike-n-Ride
  • SkyRide (service to Denver International Airport from designated Park-n-Ride lots throughout the region)
  • Access-a-Ride provides curbside and door-to-door travel options for people with disabilities. It’s free within Longmont for those who qualify
  • Transportation to special events such as Broncos and Rockies games can be accessed at designated Park-n-Ride lots for a cash-only fare

For an in depth explanation about the local and regional RTD buses, how to utilize trip planning applications, fare structures,  transfers, the MyRide Smart Card, and parking, please view the How to Ride RTD presentation by Commuting Solutions.

Eco Passes, which can be purchased by employers for their employees, provide unlimited access to all transit services with the exception of the Broncos and Rockies Rides.

Visit the RTD website to find fares, schedules, and other rider information.

FasTracks

The FasTracks plan includes rapid transit (commuter- or light-rail) in six corridors throughout the Denver Region. One of the corridors includes US-36 from Denver to Boulder and the Diagonal Highway (SH-119) from Boulder to Longmont. FasTracks includes a commuter-rail connection from Denver through Boulder to Longmont via the existing Burlington Northern/Santa Fe Railroad line.

The Northwest Area Mobility Study (NAMS) developed a prioritized list of mobility improvements for the northwest area of the Regional Transportation District’s (RTD) service area. The goal was to determine if there is a more cost-effective way to improve mobility in the area that could be implemented sooner than current projections for when RTD could complete the Northwest Rail Line to Longmont. The study began in the spring of 2013 and was completed in 2014. View the Northwest Area Mobility Study.
