Children aged 6 weeks to 12 years:
- Child Care Center – A facility where a group of children are cared for by trained staff in a structured, regulated environment. Child care centers may offer care for various age groups and typically have specific operating hours.
- Family Child Care Home – Child care provided in a caregiver’s own residence for a small group of children. Family child care homes offer a more intimate, home-like setting compared to larger facilities.
- Family Child Care Home 3 – Similar to a Family Child Care Home, but licensed care is limited to up to three children who are not related to the provider. This type of care typically allows for more individualized attention.

Head Start
Head Start is a federal program that promotes the school readiness of children, ages birth to 5, from low-income families by enhancing their cognitive, social, and emotional development. Head Start programs provide comprehensive services to enrolled children and their families, including health, nutrition, social services and other services determined to be necessary by family needs assessments and education and cognitive development services. Head Start services are designed to be responsive to each child and family’s ethnic, cultural, and linguistic heritage.

Several tuition-based preschool programs use the family household size and gross income/range to determine each family’s cost of tuition on a sliding fee scale.
Universal Preschool Colorado
Universal Preschool Colorado (UPK) ensures that every child is eligible for up to a half-day (15 hours) of state funded, voluntary preschool in the year before they are eligible for kindergarten.
