Renewable and Sustainable

Note to customers: The Longmont City Council has adopted a “value of solar” bill credit to compensate solar customers who generate more electricity than they use. This applies to customers who install new solar or expand their existing systems after Jan. 1, 2025. Customers who already have solar installed will continue to have their credits based on the retail electric rate through January 2040. Further details can be found on Commercial and Residential rate pages.
Renewable energy sources play a key role in our electric power supply. Currently, almost 50 percent of our City’s power supply comes from wind, hydro, and solar resources.
These resources work to meet our customers’ energy needs by:
- Ensuring we are not too dependent on any one power source
- Producing clean power that helps us meet our City’s goal of 100% renewable electricity supply by 2030
Longmont citizens can help the City reach its goals by supporting these energy sources and through sustainable energy practices in general, including:
- Making homes and businesses more energy efficient, with the assistance of Efficiency Works
- Installing a solar electric system, especially when paired with battery storage
- Enrolling in our Renewable Power Purchase Program
