$15,000 in Vouchers Available Through Longmont Lawn Equipment Swap Program
Longmont residents can receive up to $200 toward new electric lawn and yard care equipment through a new swap program funded with $15,000 in vouchers.
The program encourages residents to replace older gas-powered lawn equipment with battery-powered electric alternatives. Residents who trade in eligible handheld gas-powered equipment, such as leaf blowers or string trimmers, will receive a $100 voucher. Those who trade in a gas-powered lawn mower or snowblower will receive a $200 voucher.
Vouchers can be used toward qualifying electric lawn equipment purchases at Ace Hardware in Longmont. Participants can also take advantage of Colorado’s 30% instant point-of-sale tax credit for eligible electric lawn equipment, making the switch even more affordable.
Gas-powered lawn equipment contributes to air pollution and can generate significant noise in residential neighborhoods. Battery-powered electric equipment produces no tailpipe emissions, operates more quietly, eliminates the need for gasoline and oil, and requires less routine maintenance.
“This program makes it easier and more affordable for Longmont residents to switch to cleaner electric lawn equipment,” said Zak Lance, Sustainability Coordinator for the City of Longmont. “Reducing emissions and noise from small engines helps improve air quality and quality of life throughout our community.”
The program is funded by the City of Longmont Office of Sustainability, the Regional Air Quality Council and Ace Hardware.
Registration is required, and vouchers are available while funding lasts. Residents can claim a voucher and register at bit.ly/swap-to-electric.
Equipment must be completely drained of gasoline and motor oil before it can be brought to the swap event. Used motor oil can be recycled at the Longmont Recycling Center at 140 Martin St. Gasoline and motor oil are also accepted at the Hazardous Materials Management Facility at 1901 63rd St. in Boulder, CO.
After completing the online registration and draining all fluids, participants should bring eligible gas-powered equipment to:

Collected equipment will be responsibly recycled, and vouchers will be distributed at the event.
