21-Day Challenge: Shrink your trash
21-Day Challenge: Shrink your trash
Ever wonder what Longmont residents throw away in their weekly trash carts? Turns out, over half of what’s inside could actually be recycled or composted. But, the fact is, that it isn’t.
We know that Longmont residents want to make sustainable choices like sending less waste to the landfill, and we also understand you’re all busy and have lots going on in your lives. We appreciate those of you who are diligent recyclers and composters, and we are thankful to those of you who are able to put your aluminum cans and water bottles in your recycling bins. Because, the truth is, every little bit helps.
Wherever you are and with whatever you are able to do, City of Longmont Waste Services is here to help. Our goal is to keep as much waste as possible from ending up at the landfill and instead put it to good use through recycling and composting and to make doing so simple and convenient.
The 21-Day Challenge
Just in time for Earth Day, Waste Services is upping its game and launching a 21-Day Challenge to encourage Longmont residents to do their part, no matter how big or how small, and make a pledge to send less to the landfill and put more to good use.
The Challenge, hinged on the notion that it takes 21 days to instill a habit and make significant and lasting change, asks participants to get involved by making a personal commitment to create a new routine that shrinks their trash.
Here’s how it works
SORRY THIS CONTEST IS OVER, but you can still make changes on your own!
Set a goal: whatever is doable and workable for you and your lifestyle. Every little bit helps! It’s about committing to making a change, even if it’s a small one, and to creating a new habit that will help you send less to the landfill and put more to good use!
Those that join will get weekly emails with helpful tips and information about ways to shrink their landfill trash as well as be entered into a drawing for gift cards to spend in Downtown Longmont.
Not sure what waste diversion entails? We’re here to help! If you have questions along the way, visit LongmontColorado.gov/wasteservices or give us a call 303-651-8416 for helpful tips and advice on recycling and composting.
