A Power-ful 2022

The gifts are unwrapped. The calendar is on its final pages. And as we all get ready to say goodbye to 2022, it’s time to take a deep breath and say “Wow!” ""

Why? Because when it comes to Longmont’s power and the people who rely on it, this year had a lot to remember.

So cue the flashback sound effects. Get ready to start up the time machine of your choice.  It’s time to hit the highlights:

  • We all discovered just how quickly a new e-bike rebate could sell out. Longmont residents jumped to take advantage of some battery-powered biking and filled up the program in less than a week. (And if you drive rather than cycle, there were (and still are) some great EV charger rebates, too.)
  • Our new advanced metering project built out to its first 500 customers in southern Longmont. As a key piece of Longmont’s goal of 100% renewable energy, the new remotely-read electric meters will help provide service that’s more sustainable, reliable and offer more information for energy efficiency.
  • We had proof that a good idea in 1912 can still be a good idea today, as Longmont Power & Communications marked 110 years of providing community-owned electricity to the city’s homes and businesses.
  • Some of our residents with ecobee smart thermostats helped LPC begin the new Smarter Summer program. Participants received a bill credit in exchange for helping reduce electric demand by taking part in energy saving events on our hottest summer days.
  • Lognmont’s homes and businesses collectively saved nearly 7,000 megawatt-hours of electricity per year through Efficiency Works.
  • Nearly 60 commercial customers received valuable building data to take part in the new Building Performance Colorado program, a state initiative to encourage energy efficiency through building energy benchmarking.
  • Finally, there’s one you’ll be hearing more about in the future: our community created a new beneficial building electrification plan, aimed at helping homes and businesses meet their basic needs (such as space and water heating or cooking) without having to rely on carbon-based fuels.

Yeah, it’s been a busy year. And it’s one that all of you have helped make possible. Thank you as always for the power you bring to this community, and we’ll see you in ’23.

Here’s to another energetic New Year.
