The City of Longmont announces that Alex Kalkhofer has been declared elected to the Ward 3 City Council seat. The special election scheduled for March 3, 2026, has been canceled.

Colorado law permits canceling a special election when only one candidate files for the position. Kalkhofer is elected by acclamation, a process used when there is no opposition or contested vote.

Kalkhofer will fill the unexpired term vacated by Susie Hidalgo-Fahring after she was elected mayor in the November 2025 election. The term ends December 7, 2027, at which time Kalkhofer may decide whether to run for a full four-year term. His swearing-in ceremony will be held at the January 13, 2026, City Council meeting.
