An Ice Way to Save (More Power to You blog)

OK, time for a weird mental image.

Picture more than 9,200 refrigerators in one giant room, all of them plugged in and running 24 hours a day for a year. We’re talking about more coolness in one room than the entire Hollywood A-list, with James Bond and Arthur Fonzarelli added in for good measure.

Got that picture? Good.

That’s how much energy Longmont saved in 2024 through Efficiency Works. A total of 4,618 megawatt-hours, to be specific. Or to put it another way, enough electricity to power almost 7,000 typical Colorado homes for a month (refrigerators included).

Now that’s seriously cool.

Why does that matter? Because electricity you don’t use is electricity you don’t have to pay for. It’s power that doesn’t have to be transmitted or generated.  It means less energy wasted and a more sustainable community.

And best of all, it’s simple. Start with a low-cost Efficiency Works energy assessment to locate areas where you can save. Secure rebates to help energy-saving projects, whether that’s replacing a furnace or improving insulation. Or take some easier steps yet by checking out the online Efficiency Works store, where small items like smart thermostats and advanced power strips can help create energy savings that add up.

Check out the Efficiency Works website to find out more or call an energy adviser at 877-981-1888. And if you’re still thinking about all those fridges, there’s even a recycling program that can help you get rid of an old refrigerator or freezer that’s taking up space and sucking up energy.

That’s a great picture to have in mind.

In fact, you could even call it thinking outside the icebox.
