Be Aware of Scammers Asking for Money
The Longmont utility billing division is warning customers about people fraudulently calling and knocking on doors asking for money to pay for overdue bills.
If a customer receives a call like this they should tell the caller to stop calling and hang up the phone.
Although City of Longmont employees do come to the door advising customers of a pending shut down of electric services due to non-payment, City of Longmont personnel always carry identification, wear shirts with City logos and always drive marked vehicles. If in doubt, call the Longmont utility billing division at 303-651-8664 or visit the payment window in person at the Longmont Civic Center located at 350 Kimbark St.
Before a Longmont clerk and meter technician come to a home, the customer will always receive a bill marked “past due” and final notice and a pink tag advising of a pending shut off. Longmont personnel will not ask or accept cash at the door.
To report suspicious callers or strangers at the door call Longmont Police at 303-651-8501.
