Get to Know Your Library: A Spanish/English Bilingual Resource Fair

Longmont, CO—Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with books, music, dance, family activities and a chance to discover the Longmont Public Library’s Spanish and English resources.

On Saturday, Sept. 26, the Longmont Public Library is celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month with a free Spanish-English Bilingual Library Fair for all ages. The fair brings together Library services, programs, entertainment and activities, offering community members a fun and welcoming way to discover all the Library has to offer.

The fair will take place at the Longmont Public Library, 355 Emery St. No registration is required, and the event will be presented in both English and Spanish.

At the fair, visitors can meet Library staff, explore resource tables and learn about bilingual programs for families such as our first Cena con cuentos happening next week, Lotería Mexicana, and weekly Bilingual Storytimes. Learn how to join the Library’s free, drop-in Conversation Groups, including English practice weekly (in-person and online) and a weekly drop-in Spanish-English Conversation Group. Conversation groups provide safe, supportive spaces for people to practice language skills, socialize and enjoy learning in an relaxed atmospheretogether. The Library also offers a diverse collection of English language learning (ELL) books and materials to borrow.

Looking for help with something specific? Book a Librarian. The Library’s Book a Librarian service provides one-on-one assistance in English or Spanish. You can book this service online and request a staff member to help with finding books, using resources and databases, accessing test preparation and free tutoring websites, using ELL materials, the computer lab and more. A Book a Librarian appointment is also a great way to become more familiar with the Library and feel confident finding the resources you need.

The afternoon will include a celebration of Hispanic culture, with traditional dance, music and a family-friendly piñata.

Bilingual Fair Activities:

1:15–1:45 p.m. | Grupo Folklórico México Lindo
Enjoy traditional Mexican dances performed by this local dance troupe.

2–2:30 p.m. | Rueda Lesson Dancers
Watch a one-song performance and learn more about the music and dance. Then join the performers for a group dance lesson.

2:45–3 p.m. | Piñata
Wrap up the afternoon by breaking open a piñata filled with treats.

The Spanish-English Bilingual Library Fair is part of the Library’s ongoing work to make its programs, services and resources welcoming and accessible to the Longmont community. Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated Sept. 15 through Oct. 15, is a time to recognize and celebrate the histories, cultures and contributions of Hispanic and Latino communities here and around the country.

Come get to know your Library, discover something new and enjoy an afternoon of music, dance and community! Everyone is welcome.
